door stewards
Avionics, airplane covers, tires, handheld radios, GPS receivers, wireless Wx uplink...any product related to backcountry aircraft and flying.
The door stop thingies on my 180 are't just inop or broken, they are flat ass gone. I've been using a bungie around the strut to hold the door open, but that's not much of a solution. Been thinking about installing a set of those door stewards. Anyone have them? How about a pirep on installation & use?

They are the cat ass! Love them. Installation instructions were very easy to follow. Once I had the first side done, the other took half as long. Worth every penny.

We have them on our '77 A185F and we love 'em! I can't tell you anything about the install, but they're not hard to pop off if you need to remove the door for some reason, it only takes a few seconds. It definitely save the bottom of the door and your wing strut from dings.

First of all, the Door Stewards are NOT door stops. If a door pops open in a wind, from the plane rocking, the Door Stewards may not be sturdy enough to prevent them from breaking, and now your door goes into your strut......I know this for a fact.
So, in my opinion, I would install the Door Stewards again, but I would also ensure that my door latches are MUCH better than the originals AND I'd make sure I had some more solid actual door stops, either like the originals or a substitute.
Struts are really spendy, by the way.
The Stewards are great devices, but they aren't strong enough o serve as stand alone door stops.

I like mine. I probably will add a stop strap because you can see that the little piston would bend in a stout wind. I helped install and it took an hour, so probably half an hour to an unassisted a&p.

Hotrod, are you missing the door stops that are on each wing? Or are you missing the door catch which is the small metal piece that rivits to the top side of the door? (I'm assuming the 180 has the same set as a 170). My door stops weren't working very well and I considered adding door stewards. Instead I replaced the door catch on both sides. Air Power INC has them for $1.31 each. The cessna part number for a 170 is A1663-.017-1 which was superseded by P/N S2436-1. Here is the link to buy them if this can help you out.

Completely different from a 170. Nothing on the top of the door or the wing. There's supposed to be a gizmo that attaches to the door jamb and goes inside the door at the door leading edge, spring-loaded with detents. The gizmo that attaches to the door jamb is just flat ass not there.
The 170 arrangement is not bullet proof either. The wind caught my door once in my old 170 and flung it open so hard that it was speared on the wing-mounted prong-- it took a helluva hard jerk to get it loose.

Nothing but positive reviews here, a know a couple guys locally who have them & like 'em.
Wondering if this is an STC'd product or what? No mention of an STC on the Mountainview Aviation site.
