I just found a disassembled, but complete Dornier DO 28A-1 in a hangar close to mine. And I have found one on floats in Trade-a-Plane. I have flown a D-2 years ago, but never an A-1. Does anyone have any experience with this wonderful aircraft on or off floats that can give me some idea as to how good a backcountry airplane it would make.
I have been considering a Beech 18 (I need a twin), and thought the Dornier would make a good substitute, being newer. But, I don't know if it would compare performance-wise. Any comments would be appreciated!

There is a B model for sale in Delaware. On Barnstormers. Maybe that guy can give you some insight. Very cool looking.

I just found out it is a B model, not an A. I don't know the difference between them. I'll check Barnstormers flynbeekeepeer, thanks. I'll post what I find for those that may be interested. Onefitty, not only does it have the third wheel in the right place, it takes off and lands VERY short ... it has slats!!

That's a sweet machine! They have direct drive Lycomings? Should be a relatively low maintenance machine. Whats the seating capacity on the Type Certificate?

It's 8 total. The back has two bench seats. They look like 3 person pickup bench seats. Kinda small for 3 pax, but really comfortable for 2+2 in the back. I have a pix somewhere. I'll post it when I find it.

This is the best pix I have found that shows the bench seats. Although you can only see the forward facing one, there is a rear facing one also.

Check out do28.com. All in German, very cool. POH included. With the exception of the single engine numbers, a very impressive airplane.

Definitely on my wish list. And maybe even in front of an AN-2...

Well, I have decided to buy it. It's complete and the engines have low times. By the way, this a/c came from Israel and all the signage/labels are in Hebrew! Neat!!

I'm kinda stuck. The widow can only find ONE engine for this aircraft. I need to find out the market value for it so I can make her an offer with only one engine, if it makes sense. The engine I am looking for is a Lycoming IO-540 A1A5 290hp. Any ideas where to find one. I have already posted about this engine.

Well, the engine is complete. The only things missing are those that have to be changed anyway, hoses, seals, etc. The beauty of it is that while looking for the second engine, I have found 14 brand new cylinder assemblies and new and yellow-tagged instruments!!! I'll post some pix as soon as I download them from my camera.
Now it looks like my dream of having this twin engine STOL backcountry exotic bird may just become a reality.

Cool! And then you're gonna fly it down to NZ and we'll go for a hoon!

Man, would that be awesome. Been there and have flown there!! I absolutely love the South Island. If I could install some major ferry tanks, I would come down without a doubt. Where in NZ are you from, and what do you fly? I am in El Salvador.
