DRG trips

Did you fly somewhere cool, take photos, and feel like telling the tale to make us drool from the confines of our offices? Post them up!

Re: DRG trips

Treeplanters I think? It was in great shape, flat with a few loose pebbles. That was the day after I saw you at Vargas.

Re: DRG trips

A pretty day on the coast yesterday, spring has been slow in coming.

Powell RIver Townsite and the cement liberty ship harbour. They are going to sink three of these as artificial reefs soon.

Stopped in, didn't see you at the hangar. Rode a couple of the bikes to Shelter Point Park. Left before the Dragaoke at the community hall.

Re: DRG trips

My son is trying to build some hours, and he needed to get back to school on the East coast so we flew to Calgary to put him on a commercial flight. Well he flew me to Calgary and I was allowed to bring the plane back. Awesome trip, with some challenging flying due to all the smoke.

Texada, Victoria, Bellingham, Anacortes, Arlington, Ellensburg, Tieton State, Yakima, Hood River, Walla Walla, Lower Granite, Sandpoint, Cavanaugh Bay, Boundary County, Cranbrook, Vulcan, Springbank, Golden, Nelson, Hope, Texada.

We visited Cubcrafters, who were super professional, and the WAAM at Hood River was fabulous. Got to see an L5 for the first time, my dad used to own one.

He was hoping to get to 100 hrs PIC in the 170, but he only made 98.8. He flew great, and I learned some things from him. He got his license as an Air Cadet, and he has great discipline and radio calls. I could not be prouder.

The trouble light on the aileron was awesome for reading.

Lots of cool firefighting gear, and a lot of tired guys flying it. Those guys work hard.

Thanks for the pictures, and good luck to your son. Looks like your hangar is ready for winter too!

Re: DRG trips

Not as much flying as I have wanted this year but still loving it. Painted my engine mount and installed a sportsman in the spring.

Re: DRG trips

After some really windy and rainy NW weather in the last few weeks we finally got some nice days. Took a friend to three West coast Vancouver Island beaches, Vargas, Hesquiat, Nootka. Pretty day.

Re: DRG trips

Tell us about Hesquiat, flew helicopter around there a bit but never landed with the plane. Did you land on the big sand just north of Hesquiat village on the west side of the inlet?

Isn’t that where the old-timer killed the cougar with a spear when it attacked his wife? edit: was 2013, Cow Bay on Flores Island (I've landed there before). I was thinking of Cougar Annie's (garden) at the head end of the Hesquiat bay.

Re: DRG trips

Landed here. I did not take any photos unfortunately. The south end of the beach was 16" deep in mashed up seaweed, but the circled area was nice flat hard wet sand. Probably at least 1500 feet clear. I had flown over several times in the past but there was always a west wind and I had been worried about a rotor from the trees.

Re: DRG trips

Those are some amazing photos. Looks like you were the only one out that way. We are so lucky to fly where we do.

I missed all the good flying weather but can't wait for the next chance. The outflow winds in the morning apparently made things a bit uncomfortable around here, did you have pretty calm conditions?

Z, I think that is a great idea. We are a short hop from you and there is a ton of great flying around here.

Fewer bugs than Alaska too.

Alan, yes, Sunday was a downright gorgeous day here, almost no wind, even on the West coast of the Island. I left the plane in Powell River on Sunday night, only got it back home today. Freezing fog for the last few days.

Zzz you should come and visit, its fun up here in the great white north. You would be very welcome.
