Durango - week of May 19th

The wife and I are flying to Durango the week of May 19th. Primary purpose is to begin looking for a vacation home. Secondary is some golfing for the wife, and fly-fishing for me. We will be stopping in Farmington as well (golf for wife).

Does anyone know if either Animas Airpark or Durango Airport has any land, hangar, or hangar/homes/apartments for sale?

Any other thoughts?

Thanks

Can't speak for Animas (though there are several here who can), but Durango airport has no "homes" situated on it. When I was there a few weeks ago, it looked like hangars might be available, but I'd suggest contacting the FBO for any details, 970 259-7400. Nice people.

If ya wanna leave a little early, Mack is havin a fun flyin the weekndd before, 14-16, then hang out in the Durango area. Stay a little longer and hit LaGarita. it will be a good time. A couple places (hangars) have sold at Animas recently. Nothing with living quarters there. I have a hangar for sale at LaPlata. No living quarters there either,
Might think about buying some land and havin your own strip???

If you want to go up, pull back on the controls. If you want to go down, pull back farther.

I haven't seen anything on the Mack event. What are the particulars. See you at La Garita.

Re: Durango - week of May 19th

Thanks Cary & Gary.

For me the perfect place would be on trout water with enough property to build a strip or land on a road. Perhaps more realistic is a place on trout water, and a hangar at one of the airports. My wife brought up the hangar home/apartment idea. If either of the airports would allow even an apartment in a hangar that would have great rent potential when we aren't using it.

I will also be looking in the Bayfield area for property that could accommodate a strip. Excellent fly-fishing in the area but a bit far from Golf for the wife.

Also will be looking at property around Aztec.

Actually at this early juncture I'm considering everything. Hopefully this trip will narrow things down a bit.

Gary, I'll PM you about your hangar at La Plata

Whatever you decide, spend some time in the area. My Sis lives there, so I get down there as often as I can, and it's a delightful area. Home prices seem to be skyrocketing, though--too many Californicators have come to the area. :) I'm not sorry at all living here in Fort Collins, but Durango would be high on my list if I were to consider moving.

Re: Durango - week of May 19th

I used a very short and rough strip in the Ignacio area near the Ute Reservation. My basketball team at Tohatchi on the Navajo Reservation played the Utes, whom they consider their wayward cousins. I think the strip was on private land. I don't remember much being around there. The Richardson Family, who honchoed the spraying around there, had a large ranch which they ran a cattle auction out of I think. They were very friendly and helpful. They had pumps placed on irrigation ditches there and on a county road for me to load. This was in the 80s.
