Early Experimental Backcountry A/C

I was going through old family photos and came across this airplane. It's the Lawhorn Kee Bird. My dad took the photo at an EAA fly-in, possibly when it was held at Rockford, IL.

I remember as a kid reading about it in back issues of Sport Aviation. It does have a wiki page here's a link.

That's an interesting looking aircraft! Big wing (50% more wing area than a 172 with the same gross weight), big tail and huge flaperons. I wonder how it flew.

Looks like it has an updated cowling in the article picture, probably because the cowling shown in your father's pictures looks pretty bad!

Looks like it has bushwheels. I wonder what big round slicks they were running in 1958? I don't think that the airwheels were around yet.
