East coast route suggestions?

Buying a 172 in Georgia, flying it back to New Hampshire.

So I'm going to be flying it back home in the next week or 2..3.
Looking for interesting places to see, nice small grass strips, cheap fuel, good food, maybe a place to camp, etc.

Was planning on making it two days. Could be three.

Suggestions? Tempted to head over to KFFA on the NC outer banks, then head inland to bypass the coastal traffic and airspaces.

Thanks

Re: East coast route suggestions?

If you're planning to fly up the outer banks stop at Ocracoke (W95) for dinner at Howard's Pub, doubt anyone would care if you camp by your plane at the strip there or should be easy to find a room for the night. From there pretty flight up the banks to FFA.

Re: East coast route suggestions?

Sounds like you are better at planning than I am. When I bought my Bearhawk in FL and flew it back to NH, I did it in one run up the east coast dodging storms, traffic and airspace the whole way. 300-500 feet over the water (under the clouds) on the east coast of FL. 11,500 ft over NYC weaving between towering cumulous storms and planes MUCH bigger than mine. 2-3 days sounds like a MUCH better plan!

Re: East coast route suggestions?

I'm mostly figuring 2-3 days because its the longest flight I've ever done, and I haven't had a vacation in 2 years. No IFR here. Could do it in one, but what fun is that?

Re: East coast route suggestions?

I've you don't mind heading a bit west of NH, 1C3 in Argyle, NY is worth a visit. 2700' of nice grass and some neat airplanes. They just finished a beautiful restoration on an original Waco and a Champ done in military observer configuration. Also on site are a metal spar 90 hp clip wing Cub, a couple of Champs, a couple of Chiefs, a Clipper, an Aeronca Sedan, a Rans S9, a new model Waco, etc. They do beautiful fabric work and are nice guys. Definitely worth stopping by to visit and walk around. I'm biased though, I learned to fly there.

Have fun on your trip.

Where are you starting from in Georgia?

Peachstate Aerodrome has good food, antique airplane museum, and nice people. South of ATL in Williamson, GA.

Carthage, NC (5NC3) has a good restaurant on the field.

I also recommend ocracoke. Awesome spot.

Always wanted to land at Tangier Island in the Chesapeake Bay but I haven't made it yet.

Don't miss the Hudson corridor thru NYC.

Re: East coast route suggestions?

plan so far...

Not the exact path, but wanted to mark spots people mentioned had good food, great locations, etc.
First stop is in Charlotte to visit relatives. Then to the coast, across the Chesapeake, then inland to avoid the real busy area on the NE coast.

Now, to wait for some decent weather.
