External load - 12' boat on floats

Does anyone have any pictures of securing a boat on the floats? I have to fly a 12' aluminum boat up to one of my fishing camps this spring and would like to see a pic of this. I've seen it done from a distance but would just like to know how you secure and where to secure and how to protect plane from scratching etc. I have a182 on aerocets.

Thx.

this is hard to believe but true: the FAA published a flyer in alaska titled "how to secure a external load to a airplane" I got it somewhere in the hangar I will see if I can find it. You may be able to find it on line dont know. Iam sure it came out of the anchorage fsdo. If it comes off in flight let the fun begin

If you do a search on the FAA.gov website, "external loads float planes", you can find the AC 23-19a. I'd give you a better web address, but I keep getting a site warning on my iPad. Maybe it's easier on a computer.

Garth,

Send me an email address and phone number. I've got a number of photos, and I'd be happy to share some experience, having flown a lot of external loads.

By the way, the AK Region Policy on carriage of external loads on fixed wing aircraft (the official title of that document) is also available online. I'll find it and post it, but be advised, it really doesn't give you any guidance on attachment methods, or other stuff It simply spells out what they want you to do to be legal while doing it.

Re: External load - 12' boat on floats

Garth,

Here's a 206 with a twelve foot aluminum boat onboard. It's ESSENTIAL that the square stern goes forward....DO NOT attach with ANY square stern aft....really screws up the air flow over the tail surfaces.

Here's a link to the Alaska Region Policy on External Loads: http://www.atlasaviation.com/AviationLi ... alLoad.htm

Send me a PM

Thx guys for this. Mike - I'll PM you my email.

I was aware of the stern needing to be at the front due to airflow over tail, etc. but was not sure where you lean it against the strut and how you rest it on the float.

Look forward to seeing some pics - thanks again.
