What's the general consensus within the group, should a lithium ion battery be insulated from radiant engine heat if installed on the firewall ?

I'm EarthX but it's different- Lifpo4, certified, and STC'd. I'm not a fan of Lith Ion unless it's in a Titanium enclosure.

I have an EarthX as well, however it the ETX680 so not the certified model. I was just using lithium as a general description sorry for the confusion.

A friend of mine is replacing the firewall mounted odyssey in his C180 with an Earth-X.
He sez Earth-X OK'd mounting it in the same Atlee Dodge battery box.
But I'm not sure if he got that in writing-- I think the stc sez to put it in the stock aft-mounted battery box.

FWIW someone posted that the Dodge battery box STC no longer specifies an Odyssey battery.

I have some latitude on the installation, the EarthX ETX680 fits very nicely in my existing Odyssey battery box.

I’ve had the EarthX on my 180 firewall for a year or two.

No radiant protection, works great.

Also, EarthX told me a charger is unnecessary in most cases. I concur; I’ve left it for a couple of weeks at 0, 10, 15 degrees F and it held its charge like I’d flown it the day before.

Have had blue batteries on the 180 firewall for 10 years or so. On my second now, which is not bad for a bird that lives in AZ. Probably gets as hot sitting in the barn as it does on climb out
