Excellent! Congratulations! Nice looking airplane. Good for you! That 180 in that airplane is a great combination!

I see you are in Grand Haven, is that correct? I used to be in Kalamazoo, I miss Michigan.

Yes in Grand Haven, plane is at 3GM. I haven't flown in to Kzoo in a long time, but the Air Museum is definitely a flight on my agenda!

I know. Wheel pants need to come off and tires enhanced!!!

Just kidding. Congratulations. You'll have lots of fun... Just practice flying slow and playing with what you can get into and out of in safe places and work your way up your comfort levels. I'll bet it's a good flyer.

Re: Finally an owner!

I've flown Cherokees a bunch and like the way they handle better than the Cessnas. I know. So I'm weird alright? In any case, way to go mister. That bird will serve you well for most any transport mission you have.

Re: Finally an owner!

I always thought they handled turbulence better, just had a more solid feel than a Cessna. Either way they are great planes and can take you to a lot of great places.

Re: Finally an owner!

Congrats. I just sold my Cherokee 180D after 9 years of ownership. Bought a Cessna 205. I miss the Cherokee sometimes but my boys were outgrowing the backseat. You will have a great time with it, easy to fly and fix. I flew mine 570 hours in that 9 years and thank my lucky stars I didn't have to rent. Enjoy-

Re: Finally an owner!

Well, my first hiccup...

The plane had sat for a few years and I was very aware of the possibility of corrosion/pitting on cam and lifters, we had pulled one jug to take a look and everything looked OK...we also had noticed a different cylinder with a slightly low compression of 64 and some exhaust leak. I was going to throw a new cylinder on there, well while that cylinder was off today...

Image #-o

corrosion and pitting on one lobe of the cam....mechanic says the lifters appear to be OK and the lifter appears to have full travel....BUT

eventually, sooner then later this is going to start making metal...even though I got the airplane for a very good price, realizing this could happen, I am not ready to pay for a complete overhaul yet...so would you

1) fly it and watch close for metal
2) buy a mid-time engine for less then an overhaul and swap out this engine as a core?

When was the engine last overhauled and how many hours on the engine since (SMOH)?
