Dang: I saw this thread pop us and thought a new video had been released. It took me a while to realize this was a resurrection of an old thread from 2012. I have a couple of Greg's videos and occasionally pull one out and watch it again. As much as I enjoy flying into grass strips in the backcountry, the kind of extreme flying he does isn't in my playbook. Part of that is my plane, but most of the constraint is with me. I've gone into 800' strips, but probably won't go shorter than that unless there are no obstructions at either end. In the backcountry, that is pretty rare. I had to laugh reading Greg's comments from 2012 when he mentioned that his level of risk acceptance had decreased because he wanted to fly more and work on planes less. That just goes to show how wide the spectrum of risk acceptance is between participants on this site. If Greg dialed things back in disc 5, then I'm completely off the scale on the conservative end.
I do miss the active participation of folks like Greg on this site. The changes that any community goes through have migrated this forum to a different focus than it had when I first logged in. Even if I never push the limits of backcountry flying, I do like seeing the level of skill cutting edge pilots exhibit.

I still look around on the site. I am rebuilding Bushwacker right now. I am calling it Bushwacker 2.0 since it is the same airplane but with a lot of changes. I hope to be flying her in the Spring. Some of the changes:
1. Angle Valve O-360 with constant speed propeller
2. Center line seat for pilot and move back seat forward 10"
3. Cub style controls (Stick, Rudder peddles and heal brakes).
4. Smaller instrument panel with Dynon D10 EMS instead of old style gages and Aera 660 instead of the 296 I have been using for over 10 years.
5. Changed angle of incidence to match a Super Cub plus I added 3/4" more. That means I raised the front wing attach point by around 2.5"
6. Made the rear horizontal adjustable from the ground to make up for any problems with trim after flying airplane with a load.
7. Extended baggage with flat floor full length, over 7 feet inside the airplane now. Could sleep in the back if you want.
8. Custom landing gear oleos, should be a huge improvement over stock steel springs.
9. Cub style cowling with swing up doors to access the engine from both sides.
10. Extended the wings and ailerons. Wing span will be around 36' 6" (35' 6" with no wing tips attached yet). Ailerons will be 84" flaps 114"
11. New colors, Yellow fuslage with black nose bowl, black wings, black tail feathers.
Should be lighter and faster. My hope is the cruise at 115-120 mph and land at 37 mph

Another "thank you" for Bushwacker 2.0 update.
It does make for enjoyable contemplation what you'll be able to do with that aircraft.
I was lucky enough to get to fly with you one day at Cottonwood.
Impressive to say the least.
Here's hoping the build goes as smoothly as you'd like.
