Fish Lake Idaho S92

Just wondering if anyone has been in there this summer 2014. Looking for PIREPS. Thanks!

Last trip in for me was 9/12/13 and the strip was in great (relative) condition.

Re: Fish Lake Idaho S92

I was there last Wednesday (6/25/14) in the 180.

The strip is clear of snow and in good condition. The lake is to the "T" marker on the east side. Runway is in good shape and firm, parking along the edges is soft in spots. Two things to mention, there is a small soft spot on the right side of the strip 2/3 down from the east end and some mole holes in the middle of the strip about 3-500 ft from the east end. Best to use the middle 1000ft if possible.

I will try to get pictures up soon.

Very pretty up there, not many mosquito's that evening. One of these days I'm going to see a Moose.

Thanks, just what I was looking for. Not headed up until the 12th, so will probably ask again in a week or so.

Re: Fish Lake Idaho S92

Just got back from our two day trip to Fish Lake. Decent fishing, found a good place to pitch a tent, hiked until our feet were ready to come off, broke open a 21 yr old single malt scotch, and had a good time all around. Just a few things to note: Bring bug spray... by the gallon! Mosquitos are thick in the morning and evening. Almost all the wood you're going to find (which isn't a great deal to begin with) within any reasonable distance is wet, so fires are a challenge. Earlier posts regarding condition are accurate, grass is tall and if you're running small tires and plan to stay anymore than overnight, move the plane, the ground is soft and it will sink a bit. Again, a really fun trip, and will go later in the summer next time to avoid a few of those bloodsuckers! :D

Re: Fish Lake Idaho S92

Was just there to hike to the hot springs. The best parking was at the northwest corner. The ground is firm. Otherwise all was pretty tame except for the elk wallows. The west end was fine too even though it is often dicey earlier in the year.

We had home made pasta carbonara with fresh trout fillets and wild onions from just off the airstrip, home made creme brulee, cold beer in the snowbanks, and plenty of hiking to the hot springs to generate an appetite for seconds or thirds on all of the above.

We didn't see or hear another plane or human while we were there, including at the springs.
