I've seen WWII footage of aircraft landing with one gear down but one float......

The result of a mid-air - with a cessna 172 trainer - 38 miles from airport which is well into the backcountry.
Pilot walked away - 2 died in C172.

It's good to overhaul a float installation to check for damaged components every so often, depending on use.

Looks like a thru bolt failed.

Very frightening to watch. And sad.

Midair collision with a 172. Design loads, failure modes and maintenance oversights are of little relevance in this situation.

Heard that on the radio this morning, no details. You do not think of things like that happening way up in the "patch", where there are few planes, but it can happen anywhere. We all get too complacent in the bush, thinking no one else is out there.

Had a sorta similar accident around here years ago. A C150 (?) collided with a Beaver floatplane a few miles north of the Renton airport / seaplane base, which is on the south end of Lake Washington (just east of Seattle). The Cessna augered into a building, both occupants died. The Beaver's floats and/or rigging were damaged in the mid-air, but the pilot (Fred Bahr) landed successfully on the grass next to the runway.
