Flooring weights
Have you modified your aircraft? STC? STOL Kit? Major rebuild from just a data plate?
I'm looking for a weight comparison between coin flooring and the equal amount of carpeting from someone who has done an install on their machine. SCS interiors now have a "featherweight" carpet that apparently tips the scales at 4.5 lbs for enough to cover the floor of a 170B from bulkhead to end of the standard baggage area. The pro's and con's of each would be interesting to hear about also.
Cheers

I wanted to get rid of all of my heavy carpeting in the 185. I purchased the SCS Interiors floor kit. Pulled out all of that heavy carpeting and put in the new rubber flooring. Exchange weight........zero! I think it was something like 7 lbs out and 7 lbs in.
I sort of like the look of the SCS floor. It’s easy to see dirt and cleaning is easy.
However, because it’s thin rubber, there are some disadvantages:
* you feel the floor through the rubber. There is no cushion effect like you get with carpet.
* I suspect carpeting might make the noise level just slightly lower.
* Dirt and grime just runs off the rubber floor and into cracks. I have a feeling that the carpet would trap smaller particles of dirt that you could vacuum and/or shake out.
* if any liquid spills on the rubber floor, it will run all the way to the back and get things wet that are sitting in the puddle. Carpeting tends to contain liquid spills (or snow melt from boots, etc) better.
