So it looks like there is a really good chance I will be moving to the Clam Chowder State. I'd be about 45 minutes west of Boston. Anyone know of any good flying clubs to join or places from which to rent? Another idea that crossed my mind, was to join a local soaring club and learn to be a glider tower. Would be a cool way to get tailwheel hours. Think there is one that will train you if you'd like.

Lot's of flying in the area.Sterling is the home of Boston Soaring and very busy with glider ops.Good bunch to hang out with.I fly out of Crow Island a private grass strip in Stow.Be happy to give you the tour in a cub.

That would be amazing. I'll be working out of Framingham so I should be living relatively close by. I was looking at the glider club in Sterling. That sounds like a blast.

Welcome to MA! It's not that close to you but North Adams also has a soaring club, if anything I suppose its a pretty place to fly around. If you ever get to the Plymouth area send me a message and we can hit up the cafe, or better yet downtown for some (in my opinion) better food! Our hangar is right across from the main ramp.

This timely info as I'm thinking about flying to MA to see relatives either before or after Oskosh so sometime mid July or early August. They live in Worcester so I'm curious as to the flying environment around that area and of course any must-see stops, friendly airports, etc? I'll be flying a Bearhawk so low&slow routes are prefered.

I've flown some around VA and NC so not totally unfamiliar with East Coast environment, but still a novice at it.

Not in Mass, but a great pilot friendly airport in the Northeast. I would think your allowed to camp over night if you want.

Not in MA either but close enough....7B3 Hampton Airfield...friendly people and the cafe is great, little airstrip with a bunch of vintage airplanes around...one of my favorites...plus its right near Portsmouth, NH and the views around the ocean are top notch.

7b3 looks like a really fun place. Once I start flying I will have to come check it out.

Got the official word today that Massachusetts is a go. I'll be there by April.

7b2 in Western Ma. is a great little airport located within walking to downtown. Lot's of tailwheel planes, , and some nice people. There are two grass areas which are used to land on. One being 1500' and the other 1000' both very good.

I'm been to Northampton airport by car a few times. My wife went to Mt Holyoke and we visited the town often. The FBO there seems to have a lot of options too, and its not a horrible drive from Framingham. Know how they FBO is or how they take care of their planes? Feel free to PM me if you don't want to say something to everyone.

Don't forget 1b2 isn't all that far and in the summer sure makes a nice walk to the beach.
