Well I might have to go with option B. Buy a Champ or something similar and just rent the board from a local shop on trips.
Or might just get lucky and find a 170 that needs a bit of tlc for a decent price. Maybe that A&P ticket will finally come in handy.
Here it is, at less than $40K.......

Talked with the owner of the plane, the engine has metal showing up in the engine, basically the engine needs to be replaced. So in realty that's a 60~70 K to get back up running.

Just so you know, you can’t have an extended baggage area in a ragwing 170 or 170A because of how the flap cables are routed. You can in a 170B though.

Why would that be 60-70K to get it running? Plus your an A/P??? Might just be some aluminum in the pan from a piston. Looks like a decent plane. Any used plane you buy could have the engine fail at anytime. Plane ownership is not for the faint of heart or cheque book.
Pull the wings and haul it home, bet you can get it for $30K. Hell of a use for your A/P ticket

I did a crane job, the day before this thread started, and afterward the customer showed me his new JetSurf board. Water cooled ( duh) elec start DIRECT INJECTION 2 stroke engine, all else carbon fiber, fine German engineering at its best, and priced accordingly! First thing I thought of was how easy is i could rig a carry rack for it on my S7 belly, piece of cake, right on the CG, working off the gear fittings, minimal drag, easy peasy.

I had a 172E, an oldie with manual flaps. I always flew it with the rear seat removed to facilitate carrying baggage. The front passenger door had quick remove pins in the hinges and could be removed in an instant.
I often flew with a 10' Malibu surfboard, sometimes 2. I would remove the front door, fold the front seats forward, remove the panel behind the baggage compartment and position it sideways and slide the board right in. I would then support it at the rear of the baggage compartment with an elastic strap to keep it up off the floor in the tunnel. All to the amazement of anyone who watched. My boards all had removable fins but getting one in with the fins was ok. I also always carried them with board covers on.
The front seats still had full travel and it was all easy. Taking the front door off was the key. Impossible to get them in or out with it fitted

Nope the engine has a lot wrong with it talking total overhaul. In other words I would be better off from a time perspective just buying a low time engine to replace the current one. Also you have to figure there is more issues hiding out in the plane that may need sorting out. I am going to be by the plane end of July and will check it out in person and see if its worth while or not.

This is exactly what I have had in mind doing. Just because the nose or tail of the board goes past the baggage compartment does not mean the plane is out of weight and balance. Definitely being able to take the door off would help a lot in being able to get the board in.
Thanks Aussie Bob for the feedback. I have been desperate to cut my commute to the beach from where I live and work.

I keep circling around this idea of a carry rack for the S7. Need to google around and see if anyone has done something similar or just go about design a belly pod to make it a bit more streamlined and easier to live with.

Easy enough, some clamping ( or welded) brackets on the lower longerons, and a simple frame of 1/2 " square alumnim or moly tubing, pip pins to make it's removal easy. If you have fun style, work off the forward and aft gear leg fittings.
