Flying sim in VR

Since I wont have a plane probably until March, I bought an Oculus Rift VR headsets.
If you like flight simulators go buy one NOW!

Its the future , and absolutely amazing, this has capture the feeling of flying at last, the altitude, the speed, sense of space and specially being there.
I fly it in Il2 Battle of Stalingrad which is a very detailed and accurate flight sim of the eastern front in WWII and Aeorfly 2.

$379 and totally worth it :D

Highly recommended.

Re: Flying sim in VR

I'm normally nearly impervious to motion sickness. I can operate a camera without looking at the horizon while flying shotgun in the bumps of the midday hot summer. It takes about a hour of straight acro before I started to feel the queasiness.

That Oculus Rift though, it only took about 1 minute of playing a rally racing game before I felt like I was going to barf. It was really disturbing. I assume my brain doesn't like the disparity between what my eyes are seeing and what my body is NOT feeling.

Setting up Oculus Rift is key, needs to have a powerful video card or else it wont be smooth and will cause motion sickness, also you need to setup the pupil distance to the lens (easily done).
Once is setup , works perfect.

I only feel motion sick when playing Call of Duty kind of games, even watching a video of it (never on planes , boats or cars) I wanted to test VR before buying it just because of that.
Plenty of hrs now and never have had any sickness or disturbing feeling.

But yes, I have read some people do get motion sickness.

Which flight sim is the best now. I am trying to get a setup for my pilot to be, my nine year old.

Did I miss something? Why no plane until March?

VR headset sounds pretty cool... I was in the 3D graphics business 20 years ago and VR was always 'right around the corner'. Sounds like they finally rounded the corner.

Aerofly 2 with VR closest experience to real flying there is.

And for fun IL2 Battle of Stalingrad, very detailed WW2 sim.

albravo, doing a PPonk 8 weeks at least.

Just out of curiosity, how does Aerofly2 compare to Prepar3D?

Aerofly 2 model less systems than Prepar, you cannot change the weight, the fuel, there is no damage either, leaning the mixture doesnt work too well either.
No realtime weather either, or seasons.
Flying Physics are much better though, scenery nice but limited to UT CO and CA states, also a download for Switzerland

Re: Flying sim in VR

I downloaded both and Prepar3D is better for functionality and adding other aircraft, but Aerofly 2 seems to have better modeled flight characteristics. That being said, I downloaded most of the Orbx sceneries and they are excellent. The individual airports are amazing. Our home airport, Benton (O85), the detail is right down to the building signs and the vehicles parks in front of the building are the ones normally parked there.

I haven’t tried the VR yet.

Thanks again for the suggestions.
