Form over Function

So what's to collective wisdom;,carpet or vinyl flooring ? I see pros & cons for both however total weight is the leading consideration either way for my application. The products offered by SCS Interiors seem good, does anyone have their product "in service" to report on.

Like anything else in aviation: Whats your mission? That’s what should dictate your choice. Weight is an issue of course, but again, mission will be important there as well.

Personally, I like carpet. But, I have seen some sweet rubber floors recently that could change my mind.

Re: Form over Function

I do lean towards the feel and look of carpet but like yourself I've recent seen so very well done vinyl. There is a significant pricing difference between the SCS Interiors featherweight carpet and the equivalent vinyl covering.

MTV's point is well taken, I'm not carrying moose quarters so it's more of a "form over function" that I'm trending towards at this point

I recalled that I posted something about flooring a while back. Turns out, it was from the same OP.

some of what I reported previously was based on my real experience with the SCS vinyl flooring.

I'd forgotten about that post, thanks and given your experience I've settled on the featherweight carpet. The fluid observation is valuable intel, thanks and I like the idea of being able to remove and shake out as required.

Re: Form over Function

On my floorboard, directly under my feet, I have a deep ribbed rubber floor mat, from a local auto supply store. Point being, any melting snow, mud, whatever, doesn't migrate back to the tail cone but stays on the mat. It probably holds half a qt. of fluid. I can judge how much fun I've been having by what's trapped in the mat.

Glued to the inside of my fabric plane, as an interior finish, I have DASH MAT bulk carpet, it weighs nothing, and just happens to be (or if not, close enough) the loop to Velcro's hook. So anything you want to stay handy, put some hook velcro on it and there ya go.
