Front Range CO - Last Minute Meetup

HeyA,

A few of us are thinking about getting together over at Platte Valley (18V) tomorrow morning for a little informal gathering and flyout to an unplanned, undisclosed location that may or may not exist. Or just have a quick cup of coffee.

I plan to depart BDU at 7:00 to be over at Platte Valley by 7:30 or so - then we can make plans for whatever. Maybe we fly for a bit and get a late breakfast at GXY?

If anyone wishes to join us pipe up.

I wont be up to LMO that early, but I will do my best to get my bird in the air and out that way. I mean, how hard could it be to find you guys. How far out of the pattern can a couple of Cubs go in a few hours anyways!? :D

Re: Front Range CO - Last Minute Meetup

Late breakfast at GXY ends at 11. After that it's early lunch. Just sayin'. :D

I might drive over for breakfast, then fly afterwards (my hangar is at GXY).

I got up a few nights ago and got night current, after a 2 week hiatus after La Garita due to a nasty cold. Gosh it was pretty up there, with the stars and almost no bumps or traffic! Besides me, there was a PC12 doing instrument approaches and then his obligatory 3 TOs and landings to a full stop, plus a CAP 182 doing some mock ELT searching, and that was it. I did 8 TOs and landings, the last 3 for my night currency. First time I've totally stayed in the pattern for a whole hour in ages.

Well if you can't raise us on the local aerodrome freq try fingers 123.45 but you gotta be fairly close to my handheld to hear my calls.

Not sure what direction we should head. I suggest up around the Pawnee grasslands

I got out to 18V 8:30ish after chatting with coloradokevbot (Kevin) out here for a bit at LMO but missed you guys out there. I ended up poking my nose around Kenosha for a bit but stayed on this side of the rocks.

Hope you had a good flight! The air was smooth and the pressure was high!

Sorry we missed you - we were probably on 30 minutes in front of you but we went up north toward the Pawnee grasslands then circled back for breakfast at Greeley. Next time we will try to give more notice.

Great day to fly!

Re: Front Range CO - Last Minute Meetup

The Platte Valley International Airport grass-cam tells me I need bushwheels.

I mean, the grass came up to the axle on my little bird. That is just not acceptable...

Re: Front Range CO - Last Minute Meetup

Sorry we missed you today! We got going early, but today was one of those grand days with fun flying on order well into the afternoon.

This is the best picture I have from today. If you look closely, there is a J-3 with 29" bushwheels in the shot...just above the horizon.

Re: Front Range CO - Last Minute Meetup

I had the morning off and flew out to 33V Walden Jackson via Cameron since it was so stable today. Good flying, and I bumped into Kevin on the way back into LMO. He pointed out a few grass strips out east-ish that may be fun to check out if anyone is interested. He is on 8.00x6s so the Cubs should be fine (he is also one heck of a pilot in that Pacer so we can let him roll the strips first! :) )

Also planted the seeds about a flight out to Aviat and/or BackCountry SuperCub for a site tour if anyone is interested. Both of those places are high on my wish list.

Re: Front Range CO - Last Minute Meetup

Nice, glad you were able to make it out this morning! You were flying; I was working. :x

However, I learned that my office is closed on Friday in anticipation of the Fourth of July, so, for lack of anything else to occupy myself...I figure I will go flying. If anybody has similar intentions and would care to meet up, let me know. My current thinking is some practice at Easton / Valley View and a cruise down the South Platte to Fort Morgan.

I will be up in the mountains this weekend so I'll have to pass on Friday. Have fun!

I'd like to make it up to see Bruce in Douglas, WY for a site tour. Sounds awesome.

Well, I imagine with some advanced notice they wouldn't mind. I would be in. That is my dream kit.

Re: Front Range CO - Last Minute Meetup

This is from the other day when I ran in to Dave (motosix). I went up to a friend's strip but nobody was home, so I went back to play on some other grass areas that I know about 8) but my GoPro battery died part way thru :x

Great video! Looking forward to meeting up one of these days, but that won't be for a couple of weeks. Business and vacation have me traveling through mid-July.
