Hi guys,
I'm selling my IO 470 with the Norland for 182. This engine came on my new-to-me plane I just bought. Only has 300 hours SMOH. The last overhaul before purchase there were higher levels of iron and aluminum in the sample. The concensus from the engine shop was to fly it for another 20 hours and see what the next sample looks like. The airplane hasn't sat for more than a month without flying and always used Camguard. Last overhaul completed in 2017.
I put 16 hours on it and took another sample. There is still iron and aluminum in the oil, so we pulled a few lifters to check. As you can see in the pictures, there is some spalling; however, my mechanic said the camshaft looks fine. We caught it really early.
I had planned on an upgrade before all of this happened and was expecting to sell this engine. If someone was going to buy this for a 182, I would also include all of the parts that will be replaced with a Pponk, plus exhaust and/or engine mount if you want it. One thought is that you could replace the lifters and seat those on to the old cam shaft or you could replace the cam shaft and lifters.
If anyone is interested, make me an offer. The engine is in Colorado right now and running great. Glad we caught the lifter issue before it was too late.
