GNW 430 WAAS Comm Static
Have problems with your aircraft? Maybe just questions about how best to tune or adjust something? Regs or maintenance? Need to know the best way to do something?
The main radio in my Maule is part of my GNS 430 WAAS setup. Lately I've been getting constant static on the 430's comm radio when nobody is talking. If you push the volume button to check the volume, you will get that same stream of static - I think it is the carrier wave form or something like that. Well, I'm not pushing the volume button and the static is loud and clear ALL THE TIME. I'm starting to go a bit crazy. Is this a repairable condition, or am I looking at a new box in my panel?

Thanks dogpilot, I'll see if I can run the reset gauntlet. The problem I'm having is intermittent. The static comes on strong at random intervals and stays on for 3-5 minutes and then goes away for 30 seconds before returning for another 3-5 minutes. That intermittent behavior makes me suspect it isn't just a squelch setting, but that's certainly a good place to start my troubleshooting. The noise level in the cockpit doesn't seem to have an effect one way or the other. It's immensely frustrating and distracting. And it is a GNS430 WAAS unit, my fingers are just too big to hit the S and not the W key on my keyboard.

Do you get the static with the engine not running?

Have you recently added LED lights? Are you running a USB charger?
