How is everyone mounting Gopro's on the outside of the aircraft? Until today I had been using the motorsports suction cup mount with no problem. I had it mounted to the underside of the wing on a 185. Blew off at 115knts... Looks like the hero 2 will be on order sooner than I thought. What are other guys doing for mounts?
I normally mount mine on my helmet with velcro and zip ties when I'm long lining in the helicopter. Where ever I mount it I always make sure I have some sort of back up like a zip tie or string, that way if it peels off you don't lose it.
Here is a video that I shot with a GoPro rigged up on the vertical stab on my Skywagon. Took it up to 170mph and it held perfectly. Buy the best quality gaffer tape and use it liberally.
I use the suction cup mounting, but it will fall off, no question. I've always zap-strapped mine on for safety, but that limits mounting options. I'm usually sticking it under the wing near the tie down rings.
I'm making a screw on mount to attach by the beacon light - it's a cool view with the GoPro's wide angle.
I got a Hero2 for Christmas last year and I am leery of the adhesive mount alone but I like the idea of the gaffers tape. Maybe as a backup to the adhesive. I am hoping to get some interesting angles while working this year. Possibly some to aid in fine tuning my spray pattern from under the wing. Does anyone have any experience with mounting to fabric? I have fabric tails on my work airplanes and would like to do get some shots from atop the vertical while going under wires but I am wondering about vibration causing too much shake in the pic. Is that the new ride to go along with the new lodge in AK Cambo? At least your dad has style when he decides to do something!
I just used the adhesive mount on the vertical stab of my 150. Did spins and such and never lost it. I now own a Citabira and just stuck the adhesive mount onto the vertical stab again. Right close to the front of the stab so the mount is pretty much right on top of the metal tubing. This helps reduce vibration and gets the camera far enough forward so the view isn`t blocked by the stab. It hasn't fallen off with just regular flying, and I also plan on using it to get some good footage of flying under lines and possibly a br... Not sure if thats legal or not...
