Re: GoPro Suction Mount

The other problem with tethers is that you lose the chance for some truly epic footage...

And this is what happens when you shoot at 30FPS, Jello and frame tearing. Now if he'd shot at 120FPS he could have slowed down the footage for something truly epic...... I'm also glad the camera didn't have to pass through the pigs digestive tract before recovery....

Options will largely depend on your airplane. Strut mounts are universal on almost any high wing and let you get some neat angles. I do have a tie-down mount intending to get some shots from the tail ring forward or aft, but haven't messed with that much. But I am not super wild about the potential to torque in the wind, so I might rig up something better that will brace against the empennage.

I'm still working out a vertical fin camera mount, and am deciding if I want to use a side-mounted hard mount, or design something myself so that I can center it on the fin (reduced drag and no side load on an important part).

One thing I haven't decided on yet are any sort of anti-vibration mounts like VibeX or the like. I want to upgrade to the Hero 7's, and the vibration reduction technology in those is reported to be amazing. I want to try it out first before investing in gel mounts. Any other camera and the mounts would be a given to reduce airframe shake.

Re: GoPro Suction Mount

This footage and quite a bit more from this trip was filmed using a Gopro suction mount.

The key is to find the stiffest spot (usually in a corner where a rib and spar meet) for mounting. Don't recall if I ever took it up to 150 IAS, but it worked well for most of the flying we did.

If it is mounted to free skin, it will stick pretty well, but vibrate a lot.

Hey there, I'd be interested in that mount. Drop me an email at: [email protected]

Thanks, Chris
