Got my wings!

Howdy there y'all,
I've been following the forums for a while now. Currently enrolled in ATP's career pilot program and just passed my private checkride Monday. Starting on my multi this week.

Anyway, I love camping and I love flying so a super-cub is the only real choice for me. It'll be a while before I get to own one, but I'm sure you guys don't mind me living vicariously through y'all now do ya'?

Any cub owners ever in the Tyler, Texas area lemme know.

Re: Got my wings!

Hey there Flynguy....

Congratulations!
Will most likely be the start of a whole new chapter in your life....lot more fun, lot less cash!
Oh well, you can't take it with you!!

A cub is a great plane to take you lots of great places....if you get a cutie that likes to run around with you, you may want to also have a ride where she can sit beside you, all the camping gear tossed in the back. So keep your eyes out for a good C-180 or a Maule. Never have too many toys!!!

Look forward to crossing paths in the future....

It was a beautiful afternoon out on the North Sierra ice.....found 14" of hard dark ice on one of the locations.
Should last us for a while....

Re: Got my wings!

Thanks for the welcome!

I looked at the Just Aircraft's Highlander. it looked good for sitting two up. Looking forward to being broke the rest of my life. I was already looking forward to that when I got married. She's very supportive and understanding of my expensive toys though. :D

Congrats on your license to learn--and there's so much more to learn than what you know now. Every flight is a lesson--for each one of us.

How do you like the ATP course? I somewhat considering that route of getting my commercial and all. Im almost dine with my private right now and am considering going the ATP route for the rest.

It is definitely fast track! I am very pleased with it so far! As long as you study and do what you are supposed to you will do fine. They do not just hand out ratings/licenses, you have to want it and earn it. You can quickly tell the guys who are not competent by talking to them, and then there are those who don't study, usually the same guys. We have one guy like that at our location right now, but by and large everyone is great to work with, from the instructors to the other students.

If you do it just remember, you are paying to be taught to be a professional aviator. Chances are your instructor will be fresh out of the program as well, they will be learning how to instruct as you are learning how to fly. If you do not feel comfortable let them know, ask to fly with someone else. Everyone has different teaching styles and learning styles that work best for them. It is a pretty standardized system, but I have flown with 4 different instructors, and I like 2 better than the other 2 due to their engagement.

Cheers,

That's good to hear! I'm still considering it just trying to weigh all my options out there. Ive heard both good and bad about ATP so its good to hear some first hand experience! I'm just about ready for my private check ride now so we'll see!

Re: Got my wings!

From the feedback I was given, it is better/cheaper to get your private elsewhere and then come to ATP. I did the private finish up which was 20 hours. The multi was pretty intense, I did mine in 6 days.

It was 8 hours of sim and 8 hours in the Seminole. The way the schedule fell I had no days off, so I was studying constantly to get the systems and V-speeds down as well as the aerodynamic factors of flying twins. Very rewarding to knock it out! Now I am on instrument.

Today I did 2 2-hour x-countries, one of which was night. Good luck on your private!

Re: Got my wings!

Thank you! Yeah the days I fly I average 3.5 -4 hours of flying because I have to drive an hour to get to my aero club. I would like to do it all in a short amount of time like that but not sure if I can justify the cost thats my only hang up really. I should be able to get through my commercial with my instructor at my club for about 30 grand or thereabouts so the extra 30 grand Id spend to go to ATP is a pretty big extra cost.

Re: Got my wings!

Thanks! I am strongly looking into building a Highlander. It fits into my 5 year goals. I can buy and build as I go. If there is anyone on here that has some experience with the Highlander I would appreciate any input.
