Re: Gravelly Valley this weekend 4/21/12--Update W/ Duck str

well we had a great time at Gravelly Valley! last night it was so warm we really didn't even need the fire! We had a yummy breakfast and decided to go play and see if some of the gravel bars, for Rob, could still be used! Well...not long after that my day was set in stone, I would return to Nut Tree and rely on my friends to get my stuff & my dog back home. Thanks again guys for getting my stuff!
I was flying over the water a few hundred feet and making sure I kept my distance from the boat on the water when 2 ducks took off and then changed course...I couldn't avoid them, but I was able to push down enough to only hit one and not at the center of the window. Thankfully I was fine!
Also Duck 0 Plane .5....because you don't get a full point when you get damaged!

I'm glad you made it home safe Bryan and didn't get hurt, things could have been a lot worse! More pics to come....

Re: Gravelly Valley this weekend 4/21/12

A funny thing happened yesterday at 4500ft just west of Lake Berryessa. Stacey told me there was a plane below us so I banked right and saw a white and red Pacer a couple thousand feet below. I knew it was highroad and I knew he was going to be flying to Angwin so I switched frequencies to 123.0 and sure enough Brent was on. He decided to follow us up to Gravelly Valley and hang out for a while.

Wow. Glad you made it home safe Brian! Can't believe it missed the prop!

Great pics Rob!

Hannah, Cole and I had a great time, they said they can't wait to do it again. They loved swimming in the lake and hanging out with everyone.

See you all next time!

Prolly a good guess: Duck was hurt more than Mooney. Glad all's OK, though that hole needs some "duck" tape. :)

Rob did you land that bar this time with the new tires? You'll have to show me that new strip.

Didn't get a chance to check it out, I was on my way over there when Bryan had the birdstrike. After that I figured I should just go and land so we could get Bryans stuff packed up. The water level was WAY up from last month though so I don't think there would be much of the gravel bar exposed.

Despite a strike to my poor girl I was able to look over that direction as I climbed up and it appeared they all went under the water so it would have been fruitless going there. Ironically I was going over to look and see if they where exposed when said duck became duck patthia

There were a couple of landable bars I noticed coming in and going out on the SE part of the lake. Also noticed a few spots whe we were on final that were on the river just west of the strip......was really tempted but we had to get back for a dinner.

Also noticed a few hill sides/tops that looked possible around the lake. Rob and I talked about a few of them on the way in. Someone needs to go over, camp, get up early and pioneer around the lake.

Re: Gravelly Valley this weekend UPDATED w/ pics & duck stri

We had a nice trip this weekend. The Bonanza was still in annual so we took the Pacer which turned out to be a lot of fun, even though flying wasn't the focus for the weekend.

Amazing how small the "air space" really is. We had the totally random encounter with Rob and Stacey when they flew over the top of us and Rob found us on frequency. We also talked with a couple of supercubs that asked us if we were part of BCP. When coming back from Gravely on Sat. we talked with Jeremy as he departed Angwin and we were on approach. Then, today while with Seattle Center going over Crescent City, we talked with a friend that flies the air ambulance and had just departed out of there and was picking up his clearance.

Not Gravelly, but a place that needs to be camped on the Sac up by Red Bluff.

Flightlesson went well.
Wish I could've spent that warm night shooting the breeze with you all.
Oops re piperpaintermooney. Looks like you got off lightly.
Turkey buzzard went through right side of windshield of a Maule I sold.
Weighed 15lbs of bird and its head and one wing were missing.
Saw your Pacer at Angwin next day highroad but didnt see you around.

That was a fun spot to fly in. After blasting past Rob's fabulous bush plane on the climb out Abi and I hit the 29er diner and then home. A fine way to spend Sunday morning.
