Looks pretty normal to me. I roomed with a guy of the french army parachute team years ago and it was a sort of initiation of theirs to get thrown out of the plane without a chute by the team and then another guy would bring you one.

I have always resisted getting into parachuting because I think eventually they all go a little nuts, with base, close to terrain wingsuit and this kind of stuff.

Back around 1980 or so there was an article in Flying magazine about a skydiving instructor with about a million jumps logged getting ready to film a group of students on their first jump. He got too tied up in getting the students ready and out of the plane all at once that he jumped with a video camera and no parachute, when he realized what happened he held the camera out and shot a selfie all the way to the ground, where he wend "thud". 20 years later or so he got a Darwin award for his efforts. Personally I can't think of any reason to jump out of a perfectly good airplane, or off of a perfectly good bridge or radio tower.

He was an extremely squared away guy who I knew very well. I did not see it but certainly believed him. I have heard this talked about fairly regularly in the free fall community. No idea if this video is true, but I do believe this is not uncommon. As I said earlier not my cup of tea.

Ha nice! That's my old Porter that we sold to Skydive AZ. I hear it is now in Italy chucking Italian bodies .God I miss that airplane.

What did you have to do to keep the Porter pointed at the ground that long and how slow could you keep it while going straight down?

The French guy was a liar and the guy who jumped without a parachute did not take a selfie of his death. I have been skydiving since 1978 and know every one involved with the no parachute jump, in fact I managed the dropzone where it happened about 2 decades after the incident. As far as the French guy, That is complete and total BS!!!!
