Light dents everywhere, controls surfaces are all bumpy. Nothing deep, but everything is not smooth anymore. Aircraft was hail damage free. Still perfectly airworthy. i guess a reskin is a reskin whether it is on a 1977 172 or a 2016 172

Wow for sure. But then again, I was drilling rivets out of a C182 horizontal stab skin today and thinking I sure am glad that I am not the guy that has to buck the rivets back in! The right tools make it easier, but it's still a lot of man hrs and not real easy in many places.

Have you talked to your insurance company about this yet?
What did they offer / agree to do (if anything)?

I think $45k is high for a high-time run out motor 172N. I don't know the whole story or other equipment and condition, but I'd imagine you can do better with the cash.

Also, for what its worth, hail damage only decreases value by 15%. However, it typically costs more than 15% to repair. What that means is it will likely be totaled. Say it was worth 45k pre-hail -- they could give you 45k and sell it for 35. It might cost them 20k to fix.

Well finally got my claim settled almost 3 months later. Company I guess try's to avoid writing a/c off, unless they are unairworthy. Settled for an 18K loss in value which is fair. My only complaint is how long they dragged out the process, for no real reason.

Thanks! It did work out good. A 182 was a better upgrade than 180hp in the 172.

Out of curiosity, which company was this Mark? I've only had one claim and it was with AON. Things went very fast and no questions. I habe the feeling things will go the same with Marsh, but hopefully I won't have to find out...

This was Marsh, Mclarens Aviation out of Quebec was the adjuster firm. I think that was where the problem was, they told me they had their report sent in when they didn't, adjuster was hardly ever in the office. I was so mad at one point i was going to pull the 182 from them and file a formal complaint. Thats when the action really started. They did come through in the end, so i will keep it with them. Still $500 a year cheaper then Copa's magnes

I have a 1956 182. 1400 hrs in strait tail 182's. I keep it at a grass ranch strip but in a hangar. land off airport. 60K hull value with Falcon. Just renewed for $491
