Re: Happy New Year!

I was 17 on January 1, 1992, a high school senior driving around in my '72 Volvo recovering from a broken leg suffered jumping BMX bikes. Would be heading to college in Santa Barbara in the fall.

Now it's 2022? I woke up this morning and it's bright, blinding sun at -17°F. Gonna go for a flat ski maybe later today if it gets up to the forecast high of -5°. I feel like my body has been beaten repeatedly with a 2x4.

Somewhere between graduating high school and middle age I successfully achieved the life of a Finnish woodsman. Can only go downhill from here (well not really, it's flat as hell.)

Happy new year! Thankful to have all my BCP friends and such a cool community to visit everyday (if I do say so myself )

Happy new year to everyone on here, and Zane especially for keeping this place running.

Let’s hope 2022 is an improvement for everyone, with lots of good family and flying time.

Re: Happy New Year!

Happy new year one and all. 2021 didn't provide get nearly as much backcountry flying as I would have liked. Forest fires were my biggest impediment. Still, I managed to get 126+ hours on the Maule and enjoyed most of them. Almost all of my flying is for personal amusement. It's an expensive way to put a smile on my face, but it's what I'm addicted to. Once in a while I try and use my plane for something more important than my own pleasure index. My last flight of 2021 was for Pilots-N-Paws. I flew 2 rescue dogs to their forever homes. No backcountry was involved, but there was plenty of marginal winter weather. The smiles on the faces of the families receiving these dogs was more satisfying than a perfect landing in front of a large crowd at a backcountry location. Most of our backcountry capable planes have considerable space and useful load. Consider putting that capacity to altruistic use some time in 2022. I'm hoping I scored some Karma points. Heaven knows I need them.
