Hartzell 86” Voyager Availability

Doing an engine and prop on a 185F right now, and I know these props are hens teeth. Probably more than I should really be spending right now anyhow.

But throwing this line out there incase anyone knows where to track down a Voyager, ahead of the Feb lead time I was understandably quoted.

If some crazy happenstance arose where one was available, I’d really have to consider it.

Yea I know looking for a miracle. ;)

Re: Hartzell 86” Voyager Availability

So I hear and the price ain’t even bad. I have a gap to fill, as I need to overhaul my current prop and don’t want to be out of the air until the Voyager ships (Feb or later). But I’d sure like to put that overhaul money towards the Voyager… sigh. Good problems and dilemmas are the hardest ones.

Re: Hartzell 86” Voyager Availability

What is the cost of a Voyageur prop for a 185? How does it compare to the current cost of the MT? My MT is now 4 1/2 years old.

May be worth asking around a bit. There's enough planes that just get parked for the winter, May be able to rent a prop off one for a few months...

Re: Hartzell 86” Voyager Availability

I just received an 82 inch voyager for my 206, which I ordered in May. Price was under $14,000 with the thousand dollar rebate for being an RAF member (Hartzell then gives the RAF an additional 250 bucks). I believe this is the same price for an 84 or 86 inch model to put on a 185,… 6 to $7000 less than an MT three blade when I checked!

How do you like it? I really want to try one to compare against my bog black Mac...

Re: Hartzell 86” Voyager Availability

Feb will be here before you know it. I would order it now. I switched from an 88" Mac to the 86" Voyager on on my PPonk 1979 C-180. I had the Mac on for 15 years and loved it but bought the Voyager when I saw Willie Steen's test data. I'm sure those numbers are on here somewhere and I found that my performance increased the same as Willie's. It's not like adding an afterburner but it does pull harder and go faster than the Mac. I was shocked at the increased climb rate I saw at high DA. It's definitely an improvement.

Another good idea from ya, thank you. I put out a few feelers, would be a great solution.

Waiting on a remanufactured io550, I hopefully will get it, and install with the prop before the end of the year, I will post updates then :)

Wanna trade spots in the Voyager line up for a premium towards your 550? I kid, look forward to hearing about it!

RAF just announced that Hartzell's thousand dollar RAF discount on the Voyager is good through the end of 2022:

That’s a great price. I emailed Hartzell this week for a quote on a Trailblazer for a Husky and was told $19.2 with a lead time of 26-30 weeks….

Dave, call McFarlane and get a quote on an MT Ultra, much better prop than the Trailblazer and last time I checked quite a bit cheaper too.

It’s on the list. Just finished putting a factory reman in the Husky and my hangar has some issues that are going to be spendy. Once the cookie jar rebounds an ultra and probably a 355 Garmin are up next.

Re: Hartzell 86” Voyager Availability

Mine took a diversion, 185’s wearing an 88” 401 now thanks to a quick thinking member of the forum here who saw my need and matched it to another’s. A fellow needed to lose weight off the nose of his amphib and I had a freshly overhauled C58 to trade plus cash his way for his freshly overhauled 401.

It pulls like all hell, I’m sure the Voyager can do a smidge better but she was ready right now, and saved me a good deal of bucks.

The grass is always greener but a 401 is hard to beat

Re: Hartzell 86” Voyager Availability

True, I’ve been very happy, the mid altitude cruise 5000-7500’ is extremely impressive, as is the holeshot. Airspeed seems a bit rosy was tough to call by GPS due to the screaming westerly over the Rockies I was headed into. Appeared not far off, not sure how well calibrated it is, as the plane’s new to me. Have had one flight on the new prop, straight west across the Rockies and Coast Mtns for 4hrs with no time to play, I’ll have to poke at it further and more analytically.

Look forward to working with it when I find the right set of floats. Very good first impression.
