Hauling my Pponk/XP470 home

I went to Omaha and picked up my engine that Central Cylinder converted for me yesterday. I like that they are only 140 miles away. The old early engine mount legs worked good and I took some square tubing from a farm implement to make a makeshift engine mount. I think I will weld the vertical tube to the angle iron for better stability.

Re: Hauling my Pponk/XP470 home

Thanks for posting these pics, Marty!
When overhaul time comes, I am hoping to have it done at a shop within driving distance,
but haven't given too much thought as to the details of getting it there & back..
Your set-up looks great!
How bout some pics of the engine, unwrapped, in all it's splendor?
Either on the shipping brackets, and/or after it's been hung.

I've got a huge case of "engine envy" going on now, thanks

Marty, is that part of an old windmill frame the tubes are clamped too?

Hi Steve, It came from some big cross country electric line towers that a tornado blew over, on my cousin's farm, about 50 years ago. Lots of free metal that has made quite a few things over the years.

Re: Hauling my Pponk/XP470 home

Over the years I used some windmill and galvanized power pole bracing that was laying around just because it was there and the price was right, it was sure nasty stuff to try to weld, but good for some projects that only needed bolting. I left all that stuff for the tenant when I moved, only took new steel. It will fun to see how the plane performs after you get the new engine in. Hope harvest is going well for you.
