Headed for the desert

My name is Jeff and I have a '56 C-180 on 29" Bushwheels. My Girlfriend has a '56 180hp C-170 on 8.50x 10s. I fly commercially off airport ops in Alaska during the summer season. We're leaving Concrete, WA (3w5) as soon as i get my new alternator installed (hopefully Wednesday). We're bringing mountain bikes, fly rods, shotguns, a hunting dog and camping gear. Itinerary is flexible and we have about a month. Places we want to go are listed below and we are looking for input.

Chukar Flats, OR
Big Bar/Temperance Bar, OR
Pelican Point, OR
Chicken Strip Death Valley, CA
Nevada off-airport
Grand Gulch Mine, AZ
Red Creek, AZ
Pleasant Valley, AZ
Mexican Mountain, UT
Dirty Devil, UT
Mineral Canyon, UT
etc.

We will end up going to Clovis, NM and Durango, CO as well but planning is still in the early stages for that. Who's got reccomendations?

Will keep this thread updated with photos and reports as internet access allows. Anyone that wants to meet up and fly send me a pm.

Re: Headed for the desert

When you get down to the Chicken Strip area (SoCal in general, I am at KTSP) give me a shout. There's a lot of cool flying in this area.

Here's a little primer of what's around:

I highly recommend Panamint Springs Resort for at least lunch or a nice place to stay/camp a night.

Also, if you are interested in seeing Carver's Cut, I can work that out too.

There's some great spots in Nevada as well (Goldpoint, Fish Lake Hot Springs...to name a few).

Enjoy the trip; sounds epic.

Will be looking you folks up as we get closer for sure. Looking at carvers cut, that place looks fun. Anyone ever land up there and fly paragliders off the ridge? It looks like it could be good.....
