Repairing it like you describe is your best bet... The worst you can do is completely kill it and then the cost will be the same flat rate price....

As the others have said, I too have personally had GREAT service from Lightspeed but that is water under the bridge.... The companies that pull the "flat rate price" crap are pond scum.. if you need a .50 cent piece replaced you pay full price. Garmin is getting real bad about this billing concept... I guess you can get your monies worth by laying the headset on the driveway and backing over it 20 times till it is reduced to a pile of scrap, sweep up the pieces, box them up and ship it back to SennHeiser... For 370.00 you will get back a new headset.
