Helena Mt.. FBO?

One "better" then another? I don't buy avgas and don't need anything, I just want to be left alone! Oh yeah, and easy access out on the ebike.

Vetter Aviation, and right next door is a pilot lounge with beds, kitchen, showers and courtesy car - says Mustang Mickey's on the building.

Re: Helena Mt.. FBO?

Vetter, that sounds better then "Exec Air", another FBO there I see. My funky little flying operation and the word "Exec" just don't go together! It's been about 10 or 12 years since the last time I was in there, and I remember having a warm fuzzy feeling about where I ended up, and I am almost positive, now that I saw the name, that it was Vetter. That's why I asked, I wanted to go where I was before. Thanks guys. At a big buck, fancy, full service FBO I feel bad when a line boy drives up and flags me into a parking space (I always start laughing about then) and I get the red carpet treatment, like I was in a King Air, and I don't buy a damn thing. It's like pulling up to a full service gas station (do they still have those?) just to mooch some compressed air.

Weather permitting, I'm blasting off tomorrow AM to overfly Le Grand Teton park and West Jelly, then on up to Helena, where I'll check out the mountain bike trails, IF ebikes are permitted. My backup plan is Ennis, and riding the Gravelly Range before it get's snowed in, if it isn't already.

Re: Helena Mt.. FBO?

I like Mustang Mickey's too. I also used to use the other FBO when I needed customs, and they're good folks too. Don't let "exec" fool you. This is, after all, still small town MT. Courtesy cars available at either FBO as I remember.

There's overnight accommodations and laundry at Mustang Mickey's. Nominal cost.

"Exec", is that mean the boot scraper is outside the front door? Maybe just that there is a boot cleaner.

Re: Helena Mt.. FBO?

Vetter is just right, taxied over and tied up, and didnt have to fend off a line boy/girl, just what I wanted. So close to the tower,.....I think I'll just hollar at them tomorrow AM instead of using the radio. Like Pocatello, it should NOT be controlled, not near enough traffic, But the city likes being able to claim its a"real" airport! Unicom would work just fine.

Re: Helena Mt.. FBO?

I stayed overnight, and the first look out the motel room (50 bucks, right down town, the old down town, near the good bars and the bike trails both) the next morning was "not good". But by the time I loaded up the e bike and whizzed back out to the airport at 35 mph, (no need to spare the AH's, like fire walling the throttle when you can see your home field after a long XC) the squall or whatever it was had moved off, my timing was perfect!

One cool thing about Helena, at one point it had the highest concentration of millionaires in the US, around the turn off the century (1890's or so). They built some REALLY big homes, and at one point I stumbled into the neighborhood where they all seemed to be. I cruised the bike around the whole area for some time and if you like incredibly ornate and giant Victorian era homes, (at least to look at, not maintain and heat.....) it is worth a look see. Except for being controlled, the airport is pretty laid back, and quite close to town. My last XC for a while, winter is coming.

Funny, long ago during college days I rented a basement room in one of those Mansions in Helena.
