helicopter ferry trip to Alaska

My neighbor got a call from his son the other day, asking if he'd like to ride along on a ferry flight of a Bell 206, what a great kid! He jumped at the chance, and he sent me this pic today of a slightly modified pickup that apparently is used as a float plane dolly mover. I like the fact they bothered to put the rear bumper back on, a nice touch.

There are a couple of those around Lake Hood for handling seaplanes. They typically use a hydraulic system to lift and lower the planes. Work really well.

Most seaplane bases in MN have them as well. There is one in Tower (12D) and Sky Harbor Eveleth and used to be one in Sky Harbor Duluth.

That pickup must have just barely made it across the rail-road crossing in front of the train !!!

I used to see alot of diesel Toronados set up as alligators like that around in my travels. They were way cheap and that was really about the only good use for them!
