Help on Coyote Hunting Rig??

OK, I have a chance to do a lot of aerial coyote hunting.
Do not need any advice on legality or permits or morals or guns! Have all of them I need!
I have a J4E that got smashed in a hangar, everything good except right behind the seat where a 60' truss fell on it with 4' of snow.
Next I have a M4 Maule project ready to put an engine and fabric on it.
Plans are to make something like a Breezy so my gunner can be in front and not shoot anything essential for flight!!
Out of all these parts I need some thoughts on which pieces to use?
Spose I can get those cub wings to fly with the short Maule wings and make a really slow pusher biplane??
Kickin the idea around.
Don't all start laughing, I'm serious!
And no I don't want to buy the Super Breezy in Yakima, but that would sure save a lot of time! Have parts but no money!

I like the open gunning possibility but you do understand that aerial yote gunning is typically a WINTER activity right? and I thought the back seat of a super cub was cold with the gun door open burr...wait let me rephrase that BURR

Re: Help on Coyote Hunting Rig??

First, go talk to the FAA FSDO with jurisdiction in your area to find out if you will be permitted to use ANY of those parts in an Experimental/Amateur Built airplane. The FAA is pretty anal about that, and I've been told that if it's been used in a certified airplane, generally you cannot use it in an Exp/AB airplane.

Let us know what you find out.

Nice try, but i expect around here you'll probably get the advice anyway

i have been told the same thing as MTV on using certified parts for an experimental, but not sure if you kept it under the 51% rule. The advice from the other link about a phone call to the local FSDO would seem like the place to start.

George, I know where there is a couple of rocket launcher tubes from an L19! What was that Johnny Cash song about all the car parts?? You might as well but those tandem gear wheels on it too, or sell them back to me, now that I have a cub??

What's the current bid on those rocket launcher tubes? I think I have a specific use for them. Does the price include an STC?

Re: Help on Coyote Hunting Rig??

Hey George,
This sounds interesting. I thought a shooter in the back-seat of an M-4 Maule would work great. Plenty of room and less chance of shooting the prop. I know a few people on the regulatory side of the house as far as commercial predator control goes. Need to call you anyway. Are you at home?

Would there be a hazard of the empties going through the prop?

You will probably need one of these too. 22LR

Greg Miller of Big Rocks and Long Props took his Maule experimental.

Something like this Curtiss Junior. I've ridden in one (I built the engine/tank mounts on this one) and it's a nice, comfortable ride in the front seat. Hardly any breeze and PLENTY of view!
