The strike with an MT is easier on the engine. There is less impact force on the crank and I was told that if you have the MT, suffer a strike causing sudden stoppage of the engine and have to replace the crank, Flight Resources wants know about it. It would be the first reported. Otherwise (with the MT) you still have the required tear down and inspection of the engine, but most likely no crank replacement.
Edit. In the photo it is obvious that the MT broke at the wide part of the blade. At that point I understand that it is as expensive to rebuild as it is to just buy a new one. That's right, I have spent some time working for MT and so will this guy.
