High Desert Fly-In 2012

Did you fly somewhere cool, take photos, and feel like telling the tale to make us drool from the confines of our offices? Post them up!

If anyone wants a disk from them they said you can contact them directly. They have a lot of pics and those that you see are only a rough edit. I think they may want $20 or something for their time but you will get some really great shots of your plane that you can blow up as large as you want.

The photos are really good! I would like to see more of yours as well Jeremy!

Great px, looks like a lot of fun, perhaps next year. I see no planes tied down, the sand is there because of the breeze, do you park behind the bushes, tail into the wind, bury buckets or?

The winds were very light and there was absolutley no need to tie down. If anything I would have just chalked the wheels with some big rocks but I didn't even bother.

In this particular area, you can count on the weather 95% of the time. I fly out there several times a week year round and the weather is almost always perfect.

Definitely sounds like it was ideal wx. However, macktruck has a good point. In a big blow (like the Washoe valley sometimes gets hurricane force winds) that might have been a really bad place to be with the soft/sandy ground. probably wouldn't be having a fly-in if that was the forecast though. :)

Nice Pics Jeremy! And you're right Zane... if strong winds were forecasted we wouldn't have gone. It wouldn't be any fun getting pelted with blowing sand and dust.

Re: High Desert Fly-In 2012

Every fly-in from now on should have its own flame thrower!!!

Image

When is Gravelly??

Thread drift for a moment...The guy in this picture above (Grant, one of our photogs at the fly-in) also built a huge sinking ship for the burning man group last year. Well, last year it was the entire ship, the year prior it was the pier...The pier is 250' long and comes completely apart...as does the boat. Its 90' long complete with pyrotechnics, 3 levels inside. Its crazy! He also has his PHD in Volcanology... #-o

Google "Pictures of Burning Man Ship Wreck" Its pretty cool
