Re: High Sierra Fly-In 2013 Photo Thread

Due to energy mismanagement (I forgot to charge my Drift the night before and thought I had enough for the next morning's flying!), I only got a few videos. Here's what i got of 3SGS and Easy Money.

Put a few clips together in iMovie to share. Thanks to Kevin for putting this fly in on, to Zane for the BCP community and to Chris of Shortfield.com for the help with camera gear. This is just some of the footage I got personally and not the trailer for the "official" video. Can't wait to see what the pros come up with!

Nice video. Your camera mount is rock solid and gives a great picture. Liked the music and how you timed the shots. Really was beautiful out there.

Some beautiful photos here. Both Court and Grant are just getting through their images now.

These are from Court so far.... Your plane is here if you look for it. Really great stuff!

Prepare for some time spent here...there are 56 pages of photos... =D>

EDIT HERE: Grant just asked for me to not share this link I put up as they are still dumping a ton of images into it. Make sure to check back as there will be a lot of new images coming over the next day or so.

That looks a little sideways...with the left tire looking pretty overworked...I wonder what my landings look like in freeze frame?

My worst landing of the weekend and it is all caught on video and stills, luck me :D

So the story goes like this. Kevin says the bail out is up the hill, ok. Jeremy's engine quits on roll out in front of me so I abort.

Now I am the last or 2nd to last to land. So there is like 10 planes parked. All is well until I am committed. Then it sinks in I am at 9000 plus MSL, DA well above 10,000 MSL

Now bare in mind I am a sea level guy. The ground is going buy like 60MPH, but this isn't the part that freaked me out. All my buddies airplanes are in my bail out zone.

So my brian is SCREAMING DON'T HIT THE PLANES!!!! So I'm like fuck it, don't even think of finessing it, get it down and stopped. I think the pictures tell how well that worked out.

I think the guys said it was the shortest land of the group, something like 350' and I came way to close to putting it on it's nose.

There was a whole lot wrong with that one!!! But I flew it away, so I think that gets it in the great landing classification! Ya, right, who am I kidding.

That Maule spring gear takes a lot to make it flex, and those 29" Air Hawks will take a lickin. I don't recommend this type of air frame testing.

Cheers...Rob

Hey Rob, don't feel one bit bad about that landing, you were just caught in the act... The rest of us were just sighing relief that it wasn't us.. And it could have very easily been any one of us.. That spot is actually one of the most technical places a guy could land a plane.. I would ride with you any time and any place...!!!!!!!

I think I was the 3rd one in?.....so maybe I got lucky and not on film. You guys remember that fresh sage smell up there, that was me widening the road with my prop. I got some great vid of Rob landing and all I can say is he didn't stop flying until he was stopped. A great save buddy!!!
You land long and you clear brush, land a little short and you launch.
The sun sure didn't help!

Re: High Sierra Fly-In 2013 Photo Thread

One thing I have noticed at these types of gatherings, speaking for myself, I get a little nervous, kind of a stage fright thing, as I am not used to having anyone around when I do my own off airport stuff, usually it's just me and the mountain, for better or worse! And, I am always surprised to find this happening, like the last takeoff at Mile Hi a while back, well after takeoff, when I went to let out the one notch of flaps I ALWAYS use for takeoff, I discovered I had neglected to use them at all! For what's it's worth, the rare times I'm doing a crane job with or around another crane, it's also a totally different deal then all my solo work, which, like my flying, is the norm. Hell, I've caught myself taxiing off without my head set on and my seatbelt fastened when around a crowd, I NEVER do that solo. Anyone else, who usually fly mostly solo, notice this? Not saying that's a bad thing about large gatherings, if anything, I need to do it more just to get more used to it.
