Mike, I'm sorry for that. I didn't know they were incompatible either. I'll make the note in the article about that to hopefully prevent others from making the same mixup.

Oh man........totally my blunder. I didn't even know they had upgraded. Story of my life eh?

The filter is on order. :) I didn't do any adjustments to the camera. Just pulled it out of the box, charged it and mounted it. When I got home I changed the video setting.

I'll also be wearing a hat next time.

Hey Scott,

I received the parts I was waiting on today and will be building up some mounts throughout this week. I should have the Rans Mount ready for you in a few days.

Take care,

I have a GoPro 3+. I can't seem to find any polarizer filter by Polarpro that fits the 3+ except the one for a bare camera without the housing and mount. Is there a different one? I might have to bite the cost bullet and get the Blurfix with the tiffen filter that Zane suggested.

Re: How to shoot flying video

Without going down to the store to fondle the HERO3+, does anyone know what changed about the housing? Is there no longer a lip on the lens frame? My Blurfix snaps onto the housing and is held in place by that lip, but this Nflightcam one looks like it's held on by a set screw.

Re: How to shoot flying video

zane,
Yep, the housing changed a little and the camera changed a little. The housing is a bit smaller and the camera has bigger buttons and some lens/chip/microphone changes....its all on the website.

When I bought the incorrect filter (the hero3+ one) , it would not fit over the hero 3 housing.

I just received the Tiffen 55 mm filter and waiting on the blurfix adapter for the Hero 3.
Should be good to go.

Chance, you may have to just buy it direct from PolarPro on their website.

Re: How to shoot flying video

Thanks for taking the time to post this. Going to look into one of the filters. Here are some attempts I made. Exterior shots are Goprp hero 3+ shot in 1080p 60fps, and the interior are done with a hero 2 at 1080p 30fps. Open to any suggestions...

Wow. That was excellent. Great clarity and the human interest angle (the cute kid) made it perfect.
Great editing too.
You're a great dad. That video will be cherished.

Re: How to shoot flying video

Thanks guys. I use cyberlink powerdirector 12. I just bought so I am by no means an expert, but I was able to make those videos fairly quickly. Doesn't take to much to learn for the editing etc... I have not tried slowmo and all those goodies yet.

Re: How to shoot flying video

Mountain Matt seemed to have a bunch of information about mounting and prop-filtering a Drift cam about 3 years or so ago, but, now, I can't seem to find it.

Anyone have any good information about getting a prop filter for a Drift?
I have the scuba case for it, and I can slide the filter between the cam and the case.
I also need mounting ideas for for a Drift on a scout...I think the tail would be nice, but not sure how to get it secured there.

Re: How to shoot flying video

Zpilot,

The Drift is a tricky beast to put a filter on due to the wide angle rotating lens. The newer cameras with the removable lens cover might be the best way as you can put filter paper in between, but even then it ends up "crunched" in there. The scuba cover was a good idea, but catches a lot of wind and vibrates.

My best advice with the drift is just to adjust the settings and fly in low light conditions. :) Honestly, I just try to mount the camera where the prop is the least annoyance. If you can find a good mount on the tail, the prop artifacts will likely not be an issue.
