Ok not all of us are tree huggers. I for one hunt and fish. In fact my trips to Idaho are for fly fishing as well as the great flying. Its true though that Cal is full of feel good anti hunting nuts who know absolutely nothing about wildlife or land management.. THey think buying and planting a couple of trees will make up for their polution. IE Al Gores carbon creditsl I may live here but I don't play their game.. Trouble is Hunting and fishing in SO Cal is virtually non existant.. We used to be able to hunt Mountain lion in So cal but the animal rights nuts got it banned. Trouble is that lions are at the top of the food chain in the back country here and if their numbers aren't controlled they overpopulate and the health of the species declines. Also we now have numerous attacks on people every year, some resulting in death. The average lion consumes the equivalent of one and a half deer every two weeks. That's 3 a month. Most animal rights wackos don't know that fact either.

Following his logic I should be saying they should ban GA and low time pilots from the sky because they ALL do dumb stuff. Instead I still flight instruct and try to promote flying to everyone.

Mountain lion populations are self-limiting. Male lions are fiercely territorial in regards to other lions, and they regularly kill each other over territory disputes. While many species require predation for a healthy population (deer, for example), lions do not.

MikeMike, very good info about flying the Hudson guys. I used to do it on a daily basis. I changed companies, so I do it only about once a week now.

I just want to reinforce you statement about checking TFRs. FSS is no help. They only tell you there is a notam for games, and then follow that up by saying they don't follow the games and don't know when they are playing. Check the NY Yankees website for game dates and times. The TFR starts one hour before the game, and ends one hour after.

Every once in a while there will be a security notam for the UN. FSS will give info on those.

I'd also like to reinforce "Get the NY Helicopter Route Chart. I think it's very important.

And watch out for all those d@#n helicopters! LOL
