I got to run a 12V-71, hauling logs when I was 18. It was a pretty good horse for the day, but heavy! They had some cooling "issues" if they didn't have the right water manifolds on, but that was about all you could do to hurt them. That was the only Detroit I ever liked driving, despite the crap fuel mileage and extra weight.

I have a 6-71 on the rock crusher...sure gets tiring listening to the scream all day long... maybe I'm getting old? #-o
I was always a "juiced up" Cummins guy, until I got spoiled by Cat.

Here's a picture of me when I was 18. Dad had a Thrush spray plane at the time and did aerial seeding so I got to drive this rig from VA to Iowa pulling a flatbed with a 170 Cessna and an Aeronca Chief that his friend here in Iowa rebuilt. The flat was traded for the grain trailer and I loaded rye seed in Brookings SD and took it back to Va. Thought I was a big wheel :D . This truck just had a 270 Cummins and a 6 speed.(competition for the Mack Maxidyne)
