I was wondering when RC would make it's way into BCP vids

I am a huge RC guy and fly airplanes, gliders, and helis on a regular basis. The Quad copters are gyro stabilized and make amazing camera platforms. Hope this is not a repost. Very cool video from a very cheap platform...for those of you that are already camera guys I can fly these no problem...imagine the possibilities!

Yes that is a sweet video. Any further info on the platform?

I want a quad rotor.

Is keeping the subject in view just dumb luck combined with cunning and skill, or is there a live feed?
A live feed would be possible but is there a small enough transmitter out yet?

The music wasn't to my taste either-- but that sure is a cute girl!

Perhaps you guys can submit a playlist of musical requests to the Youtube user. :)

I LIKED it! I liked the video, I liked the music, I like almost anything that people do that I can't. I can't even post a picture on this site yet. What I didn't like so much was the part where I almost shat my dress on her landing roll out at about the 1:04 mark. Scared me! She does appear to be a good stick though.

I don't know which quad rotor they used to film that, but you can get the HD version of the ar.drone for like $300. I've been seriously tempted, because iy looks like a ridiculously fun toy.

Re: I was wondering when RC would make it's way into BCP vid

I posted this and can answer a few questions. It is a DJI 450 Flamewheel with a 468 Gimble. It doesn't have FPV so it is just dumb luck, lots of practice, and a huge go pro field of view that I am able to catch the plane. The unit that filmed this is my smaller more portable one that we can take in the plane, but the sky is the limit with what you can pay and do with these things. This one is probably the cheapest (1300 for the entire setup) that will actually produce an ok video and I have used it on actual stuff as well, not just my silly plane videos. It does require a fair amount of stabilization in editing and my seriously fast 16 gig ram mac routinely chokes on it and crashes, which is the only thing that has ever crashed it. As for my girlfriend excessive use of breaks, we have a different set of brakes and gear on this plane compared to our old cub...and yes it got her attention (this was the day after she brought it home from the factory). I have exactly one landing still (which is on the video) and haven't used them yet....

Very cool. =D>

Possibilities are endless with a rig like that, and enough time on your hands to get good with it!

Flying is dangerous. If you think otherwise, you are new at this sport. Mind the gravity not the gap.

Re: I was wondering when RC would make it's way into BCP vid

nice video, love the paint on the carbon cub... Got a little heavy on the brakes in the middle of the video eh? Looks like you guys are having fun though, id like to see more

Yes it does take time. I have more time with rc copters than real ones and I am commercially rated. And I certainly feel less stressed in real aircraft than when flying the RC stuff. Super fun and I supposed the consequences aren't nearly as dire.

I guess I missed the part where he asked for everyone's critiques. Great video and great music. Nice job!

Re: I was wondering when RC would make it's way into BCP vid

So am I nuts to buy a 1500$? quad? and think I can operate this thing with almost zero real rc time?

I have my eye on a Turbo Ace 830D with a two axis cam.

They do require a bit of time to get used to. I can't tell you how many times I crashed my trainer. And often when you do you have to replace something (rotors, boards, antennas, ect) so you have to have a good source of parts. I wouldn't sling a camera till I was sure I wasn't going to wreck, cause you may end up replacing that too.

Additionally you really want a stable craft for video. This video on the post took about 4 hours to stabilize in final cut and each time it has to fill an axis it zooms, crops, and distorts the picture. So the more stable the raw video the less blury it will look after editing and the more of it will show up. Using a go pro this isn't a huge deal because of the huge fov. Using an dslr this becomes more important.
