Idaho Flight instructor

Is anyone here a tailwheel flight instructor, or know of a good flight instructor in Southern Idaho. I am a Helicopter CFI, and a airplane Private pilot currently in Aircraft Maintenance program in Pocatello. Looking to get my tailwheel endorsement knocked out. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Truly superior pilots are those who use their superior judgment to avoid those situations where they might have to use their superior skills.

Re: Idaho Flight instructor

Best flight instructor I have flown w/ in many years is Tom Kohler out of Idaho Falls, Idaho. I am not sure how much tail wheel time he has but you will not find a better guy and an excellent instructor. PM me and I will get you his phone number. Best of Luck :D

Try Mark Doerr at Precision Aviation in Twin Falls. 4214710
It won't be around for ever but I happen to know that he has a 180 Super Cub at this place for a month or so to do about 5 tailwheel signoff's right now. If you can get to it soon he might be able to put you on the pile.

If you don't have any luck close to Pocatello come down here. Wayne Larsen in Brigham City does lots of tail wheel training in one of their Super Cubs. He's great. 20million tail wheel hours :D

Re: Idaho Flight instructor

I got my tail wheel endorsement from Tom Lawler in Lava Hot Springs. He was an excellent instructor but does not teach for a living (works for the Airlines and flies a Maule. Tom was actually my second choice, the CFI renown for his expertise as both an instructor and considered the preeminent Husky instructor is Bob Jones of Idaho Falls. Bob is 86 but you would never guess it. I have been told that every pilot should get some dual with Bob. I plan on going up with him to sharpen my tailwheel experience and to do spins in the Cub. He may be 86 but he can do amazing things in a T6 I am told.

I wish I could, I actually finished up my private through Mike Groll at airmotive. I wish had the time to head down that way, but no such luck.

I'd recommend JoeCub. But he's way over here in the Boise area.

Re: Idaho Flight instructor

I don't think Bob Jones holds a current medical so he can't act as pic. If you can find a plane to train in I'd at least call Bob and see. I always have a ton of fun when I fly with him. When I flew with him a couple weeks ago he mentioned he may not renew his CFI when it expires this fall...

You may want to check with Louis Hart up in Rexberg.

At KPIH Jim Wolper, who is an instructor at the Av Center last I heard, bought my old T-Craft though he NEVER used it to instruct....he may know someone.

Jim doesn't have the t-craft anymore and isn't TW current but he might know someone. He is a nice guy; I've never met him but I called him last week to ask about some light sport stuff and he gladly talked for 20 minutes. Wayne Larsen in Brigham is a nice guy; I like training with ag pilots and he has the cub so if you can't train with Bob then I'd call Wayne.

Re: Idaho Flight instructor

Yeah the T-Craft changed hands several times since Jim owned it, in fact I got a call a few years back and was asked to ferry it up to Bozeman to it's new owner. I was there before they hung up the phone, what a treat to fly the old girl again!

Bob Jones just got his medical back a few months ago, so I still highly recommend him.
