Re: Identifying bad hydraulic lifters

The old school way to test pump up and leak down rates on lifters was to place them in a pie pan full of clean oil and set them on an arbor press or even a drill press. A push rod was chucked in the press and placed in the end of the lifter, you could pump the feed handle which stroked the lifter, and pumped it up with oil. When it was solid you would stop and maintain pressure to see how long it took to bleed down.
If you wanted you could rig up a pressure gauge, they used to list specs for this procedure.
Anybody else old enough to have ever seen or done this?

Back when we all had our own way to pronounce Iskenderian Cams ? I see in the ads now that they have given up and just call 'em Isky. Crane sure was easier.
