You will love it, it will love you, it will keep increasing in value, you can land anywhere that anyone else can, you can land anytime anyone else can, it really can jump tall buildings with a single bound, is almost as fast as a speeding bullet, and God forbid, if ya do decide to sell it, there's a whole bunch of people out there that will want it.

Coyote - I have to say that if it were just me in the plane (at 225 lbs) I think I'd probly own one by now. But wifey like to fly too, which - I guess - is a good thing!

Speaking of Clippers, here's some excerps from a recent ad in GA News:
"PA-16 highly modified Piper. O-540 Lycoming...C/S prop...72 gallons fuel...very unique.Very high performance...." with an Oregon phone number.

235-or-more horsepower Clipper...."Very unique"- no shit! But doesn't sound much like a Clipper as we know them.

Abit of history...

....concerning the Piper Clipper. This is purely from memory but I believe that Pan American World Airways, who called their airplanes "Clipper Ships" sued Piper and forced them to drop the "Clipper" name.

The Clippers were thereafter renamed "Pacer." Am I right?

z3skybolt, I believe the Clipper and the Pacer share practically the same fuselage and wings, but the Clipper is a stick and all the Pacers and Tri-Pacers were yoke/wheel controls. I can't remember if the Clipper has flaps or not? I think the Pacer also has a few hundred pounds of additional gross weight capacity too.

I can't imagine how nose heavy (or what kind of weight is in the tail) a O-540 with a C/S prop would be on a Clipper, but I'd sure like to fly it....once.

He is right about the lawsuit, No flaps on a clipper, doesn't need any, pull the power off and down it goes, remember it's a short wing Piper. I did my tailwheel checkout in one, I don't remember it being down on power, just the opposite actually, maybe it had a different motor?

wirsig,
I personnally know that Wilga and its previous owner. I nearly bought it this past summer. But fuel prices made me rethink the decision. It still needs some work til it is flyable....when I looked at it. I have a few more pictures of it if anyone is interested.

Cliper had no flaps, & had wider span ailerons than the follow-up Pacer. Also had an O-235 with a firewall tank, although many have been modified with an O-290-D or D2 powerplant along with 18 gallon wing tank(s).
