I am all ears, If this was your repair how would you tackle it? I am being told that the horizontal and vertical stabs need to be removed and the new plate riveted in. Do you see an easier way to resolve this fix. I am not a A&P and I would be very interested in any ideas on how to repair this crack with out removing the tail. Any advise would be much appreciated. Its repairs like this that make me want a experimental aircraft.
Thanks again Dan
It's a couple of hours, assuming the vertical and horizontal are off, sorry if I wasn't clear.
I'd just make an angle out of the same material, I think that bulkhead is .032" or .040", and cut out the bad/cracked flange, replace it with the fabricated angle. Rivet it to the horizontal bulkhead and reuse the existing attachments on the station 209 bulkhead.
If you don't want to repair it, fabricating a whole new piece isn't too hard, but I don't really think it's worth the effort for such a small discrepancy.
While you are there, do all the stuff that Brian-Steve recommended. I'd probably pull the jackscrews apart, put new bearings in them, clean and service them etc.
