Inexpensive Cargo Net

I found this cheap USGI cargo net at Coleman’s; works great!

What are you paying for shipping? For me in AK they want $25 in shipping for 2 of them.

This is more of a mid-range option but really nice for the money:

Cargogear's site also has some pretty nice looking Brownline-style tracks & rings.
Here's a pair of 6" tracks with 2 rings for $20.

I’ve posted this before but here’s the net I installed in my old 170, I have the same one in my 180 now. I got it on www.safaristraps.com I believe it’s the 23.5”x23.5”.

Re: Inexpensive Cargo Net

I bought the same as above after seeing more than one post about them. It worked well on our last trip. I used it in the aft cargo compartment to help strap things down instead of using it vertically like the pic above. The damn 4 stainless captive shackles I bought to use with the factory eyelets cost as much if not more than the damn net did.

Thinking of getting another one to use in the rear area. We pulled the rear seat out and had lot of crap piled up in its place. I would have felt slightly better if it had been strapped down as a total load instead of just laying there.

Re: Inexpensive Cargo Net

Brownline rigs and rails or pads like these are an attach option:

https://www.ebay.com/p/Set-of-8-Aircraf ... 921&chn=ps

Another option are Saf-T-Stops with eyebolts--
these are kinda spendy at $50 a pair, but they fit Cessna front seat rails and also BAS / Lakevue Aero jump seat rails.
I had a couple of these, I cut them in half and drilled & tapped the cutoff portion & added hardware store 1/4-20 eyebolts so now I have 4.

https://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/ ... GXEALw_wcB

Dave, a possible alternative to the spendy stainless shackles might be relatively inexpensive carabiners or "snap links" from the hardware store. Small ones will fit into (drilled out) AN eyebolts.
Or welded steel rings mounted to the factory nutplates using a small clamp.
I've made clamps for these using a single link of heavy duty sash chain.

Yet another copy cat :)

I bought twisted shackles off amazon for a pretty decent price.

In the floor, I just put AN43B bolts and more amazon shackles.

Re: Inexpensive Cargo Net

I made some rings to attach my cargo net on the 170 with some 3/8” shackles that could be found at Lowe’s or Hone Depot for $6 each, with AN42, or AN43 eyebolts from aircraft spruce. AN42 is threaded for 10-28 and the AN43 is for 1/4-28. Then some small washers for spacers.

Re: Inexpensive Cargo Net

I just ordered one of those 23.5" square cargo nets from Safaristraps.
$61 plus S&H-- seems like a good compromise between quality & price.
Certainly seems like a better deal than the similar item from Mountain Wave at $350.

I plan to mount it vertically at the extended baggage bulkhead like Rob did.
I'll quite likely get another, longer one later,
mounted horizontally to lash down over stuff on the std baggage / rear seat area floor.

Re: Inexpensive Cargo Net

I’m getting fed, mid, and aft cargo nets from Mountain Wave. Looked at the material cost alone, and decided the price was expensive, but fair.

I still ordered a couple of these surplus nets from Coleman’s though. At this price? Easy decision. I’ll use them for holding cargo down. Mountain Wave will prevent cargo shifting against the planned C.G., and prevent passengers trying to egress the wrong way if there’s ever an upset, particularly in water.

Re: Inexpensive Cargo Net

On the safaristraps nets, are you ordering the medium duty or heavy duty?

Either will be just fine for what we use them for. The 23.5”x23.5” one I have pictured above in my old 170 was the medium duty. The one I put in my 180 is a heavy duty one, the only reason I got this one was because it came in 24”x24” and the medium duty didn’t. I just wanted the slightly larger dimension to better cover the extended baggage area. Both nets were good quality and I’d recommend either one.

The net in my 180 I attach a little differently. I cut those corner straps off and I just put some good quality carabiners on each corner that hook into my tiedown rings on the plane.

Thank you! I built up the AN eyebolts today. I’ll get the net ordered next week. I used your previous posts and copied it, I appreciate the pictures, they sold me!

Re: Inexpensive Cargo Net

Based on Rob's photos, I bought & installed a Safaristraps.com net: 1" webbing, 23.5 x 23.5, light-to-medium duty.
At $61 + S&H. I thought it was a pretty good deal-- esp compared to the equivalent from Mountain Wave at $350 or so.
Here's their website:

https://www.safaristraps.com/cargo-nets ... cargo-net/

and a photo (installed)

Re: Inexpensive Cargo Net

I also installed a few cargo tiedown rings, mounted with a 10-32 screw through a heavy-duty sash chain link used as a clamp.
Two at the side rear seat attach nutplates, about 6 others farther aft bolted through a bulkhead.

Image

Also have a couple others that slide onto the seat rails & clamp in position when you need them:
