Re: Insight G3 engine monitor

An Insight G3 is not the same as a JPI or EI graphic monitor.

Cary,

Well no, it's not a JPI or EI. But in my experience, Insight is a standup, forthright company that makes good stuff (think original GEM and Strikefinder) that got good reviews from Aviation Consumer back in the day.

I have no experience with the G3 (though I do with their previous products), but think it will fill a nitch for those who don't have the panel space for bigger glass, or for those who want to upgrade from an earlier GEM etc. Besides, the G3 looks to be inovative in its own right . . . even has onboard vibration spectral analysis so you know when it's time to do a dynamic prop balance.

Re: Insight G3 engine monitor

The guys I know who like & buy these engne monitors go for either the JPI or EI versions (the experimental guys go with a Dynon), usually teamed with a fuel flow instrument by the same mfr. Seems to me like an engine monitor oughta include fuel flow information, though not a "totalizer" (fuel used/remaining info) feature.

The Insight monitor might, but the EI monitor that a friend is installing apparently does not. He's teaming it with an EI fuel flow gizmo. Not sure about the JPI, but think not on that one also. Another guy I know is having one of those installed, along with a separate fuel flow instrument.

Re: Insight G3 engine monitor

I have always ran the JPIs, When I saw the G3, I liked the idea of each cyl pulse vibration depiction. If a cyl has a power problem it would show on vibration better than EGT and CHT.
