So in an effort to stay busy during the covid I decided to attempt to fix some cracks in my plastic in the aft cabin and install some closed cell foam. I removed all the trim around the back windows, cargo door cover, cargo bay trim, etc. The interior of the plane is aqua blue, ie. 66 ford fairlane blue. Now, The vinyl at back seat, door cards and pilots footwell are Still in great shape and now that I’ve fixed the cracks, the plastic will look great once painted. The question I put to you all is this: do I stay faithful to the as delivered aqua blue or should I update it to something a little more subdued, say light gray. The ceiling and carpet have been replaced pre me and they are already grey. I’m new to the whole aircraft ownership thing and I’m not sure if it’s a value to stay as close to original as possible even if it’s entertainingly dated. The blues not offensive even if it does resemble flying around in a small swimming pool. All thoughts greatly appreciated.

I went with an antique/off white. (SEM paint).

It’s hard to beat gray for the interior. It goes with everything should you decide to reupholster seats or repaint the outside.

Don’t worry about it being dated. Make it as modern as you want and future buyers will still say, “Ugh....that interior is just so.....twenties! You’re only up to the moment for a moment.

I went with grey, did not care for the original color.

Another vote for the grey tones, they seem to play nice in the sandbox with others.

Yeah, seeing how the carpet and headliner are grey I think that’s the route to go, I’m assuming old planes aren’t like old cars where it’s sacrilege to deviate as say GM and god made a 63 vette

Well, if it was an unusual or rare plane, AND it was otherwise 100% original, it MIGHT make a difference to someone who was interested in it because of its uniqueness... In that unusual case, sticking with the original color might make sense.

But since your plane has already been updated and changed, I'd say "Go for it." A neutral gray is rarely objectionable to anyone, whereas there are some people who just won't like the '60's vibe...

Yeah, 66 182 prob. not considered “rare”

Gray is the new beige.
Hindsight, I would have picked a darker gray like a charcoal vs the light gray I used.
