I saw this sticker on a Skywagon at the airport about a year go. What is this organization all about? It sounds like we'd have some here.

I have dreams of being a sod farmer one day, but for now I have to settler for being an ant farmer.

I have never seen a Moss Farmer logo, hat, or tshirt. Is that because everyone in the Pacific Northwest is a moss farmer?

Dunno. But any organization that has both "Officers" AND "Royalty" must be special.

There was also a Canadian contingent at one point, they even produced a map of their various members strips. I carried a copy of it in my sailplane for potential out landing sites in the Eastern Ontario region. You had to be careful what crop they were growing beside the runway. If it was a tall crop the strip would become unusable as the growing season advanced. They would only clear a strip wide enough for their airplane usually. It makes sense, land that isn't seeded is lost revenue.

I am more of a rancher than a farmer, so I guess I don't qualify.

SERVICE CEILING -noun - The altitude at which the pilot starts smacking the dash, exclaiming, "CLIMB OL' GIRL CLIMB!"
Its an association of both; farmers and ranchers. Many of the members use aircraft to manage cattle operations. If you think about it, most ranchers are farmers, too, in that they have to manage the grass that feeds the cattle.
There are a number of us here (BCP) that use aircraft to manage cattle and farming operations although I don't know if any are members of this organization. IFF is still active with numerous gatherings around the US and Canada according to its website.

Forty years a go the FF's had a convention in Swift Current , Sask. I think there were 140 planes showed up. There were a few local members but the organization has faded a lot in the last 20 years. Still some farm planes here but not like the old days. A lot easier to get involved with a new C172 at 30 k can.$ than now for something new at 500K.

With a history that started with guys operating out of farm fields and pastures, the website uses images of retractable gear Bonanzas and Pipers for their aviation theme. Not the kind of aircraft associated with their heritage...

I remember going to flying farmer events with my dad and a kid. He was one of the younger pilots attending, and he is 74 now. Very few are left or active around here anymore.

It's a bit sad to see that kind of aviation history and grass roots flying wither away

Isn't that the truth. Family farm in Gilby, so many farm strips are gone.
