IPAD Air's speced operating temp range is 32F to 95F
Avionics, airplane covers, tires, handheld radios, GPS receivers, wireless Wx uplink...any product related to backcountry aircraft and flying.
Has anybody used an IPAD in the plane and experienced problems beyond either extreme?
I'm fairly sure my cabin temperature will always be warmer than 32F, but I am positive that somedays when I did not flight plan well or decided I wanted to go there anyway, it will be more than 100F for long periods of time, if not an entire 2 hour flight, during the summer.
Thanks

I've had an ipad since the first gen and I have only had it overheat when it was in direct sunlight....like on the ground. Otherwise...no problems! And I have that low wing thing going on

My IPhone 5 has over heated a few times. I left it on top of the panel all day in the direct sunlight and it didn't like it.

Mine has overheated when I left it in its mount under the skylight while parked, but I have never had a problem in flight. It doesn't get very hot up here though. I have never had a problem with the cold, having flown at temps well below zero and with a very drafty plane.

Yup. Happened in class bravo at rush hour last summer on departure. Now I dunk the IPad in the cooler until I'm ready to use it in the sun and copy everything important before ops from an unfamiliar bravo airspace airport when it is hot as hades out.
How do people in PHX do it?

We use them in the tropics, only ever had a problem if left to stare at the sun.
I've seen one with grill marks on the case that still worked - pilot/owner was vacationing in Mexico and hid it in the oven on his way out the door, later that night they returned and cranked the oven up for nachos. Dang - forgot about the iPad. Black screen (I'm too hot!) for a while then it worked again. Grill marks are good reminders.

I've had my Mini now for about 1 3/4 years. I've been pretty careful not to allow it to sit in the sun on the ground unprotected, but usually that just means closing the cover on the "forpilotsonly" iPro Navigator yoke mount. That cover when open shields the Mini from the sun while in flight while using it. Flying to and from OSH in July/August this year and last was plenty warm. I have yet to have it overheat. I don't recall what the temp was on the coldest day I flew last winter, but it was plenty cold, certainly below 32F. I know that it warmed up above that in the cabin, but the Mini worked fine well before the cabin warmed.
Hard to say what the actual parameters are for iPad operation beyond what Apple says they are, but apparently their published parameters are pretty conservative.
